No, losing the points for Paris will hurt his ranking, but he needs to play, and probably win some matches to hold on to a spot in the WTF.

She has exactly the same number of majors as Sabalenka, and she is on the upswing now...she is exactly the kind of player who can drive Sabalenka up the wall in frustration..

Just a little bit of luck on that comment (mine). Kenin's good 2020 was already a few years back, and I believe her game has too many twitches at the moment, especially the serve.
But she has been healthy for a good run now and yet she has not climbed further up. Aryna was a bit too much for her at the moment.

by JTContinental She hasn't looked for real in any match that I've seen her in yet (I did not see this one and have not seen her play since the US Open). She's got amazing power and her serve is great, but she needs to learn a lot about court position and shot selection before she'll contend for big titles, IMO. She's also super moody oncourt in a not good way.

by ashkor87 She is young, she will learn

Awfully high standards you have here )

by meganfernandez Kvitova not happy with the scheduling. I'm not following. Is she saying they should delay the doubles draw to complete the singles R1?

by mick1303 Wasn't sure that this is a right thread. Can see only WTA comments here... On ATP semis - this is much juicier lineup than if the opponents were reversed. Sinner is better against Alcaraz than against Medvedev. Zverev is better against Medvedev than against Alcaraz. What we have here are the best ATP matchups.

by ashkor87 Pegula won but served under 50% for the third match in a row..has she become more (too) aggressive on first serve?

These matches were surprisingly one sided - some good points, but Medevedev, and Sinner won the big points.

I'm not following. Is she saying they should delay the doubles draw to complete the singles R1?
I have a feeling it''s more about the late-night finish and how those should be avoided. Point is, do whatever you have to do to not make someone finish after midnight and play the next day. Start there and schedule accordingly.

by meganfernandez Medvedev highlights were insane. Best I've seen him play in a few years. How did Sinner beat Alcaraz 6-1? What happened?

by ashkor87 Sinner vs Med should be a good one..It is indoors, I hear..Medvedev superior serving and ability to absorb pace, should win the day..the court seems difficult to hit through..the many lopsided scores suggest the court is slow, the server doesn't get cheap points..it will take good serves... But I would expect Medvedev to win.

by Suliso Wrong this time. Sinner wins in two tiebreaks. Up to career high #4.

Sinner on the week: I think this is maybe the most important thing from this week. First time for me in China. I didn't know exactly what to expect. I was for sure not expecting this kind of reaction, so it was really nice experience.😊#2023ChinaOpen

Based on a top ten player winning an ATP 500 event? Sinner has been close to world #4 for a while now, and this win just confirmed his place near the top of the tour, and a contender for big titles.

by ashkor87 Not just this one case, I just see more chaos than in the past ..nobody would have picked Sinner to beat Alcaraz and Medvedev one after the other..and I am a big Sinner fan...

by ashkor87 Osta vs Samsonova, sabalenka vs rybakina . The balls will take a beating..!

by Suliso Why not? #4 beating #2 and #3 back to back occasionally seems reasonable to me.

He wasn't #4 then..more like 7
But why am I talking?! Rankings mean nothing, according to me.

by ashkor87 Coco vs Swiatek in the semis..court is slow, should help Swiatek...on a faster court, I would bet on Coco...

by ashkor87 Rybakina is sooo formidable on a slow hard court! Can't imagine who can beat her here...let us see what happens. samsonova next, also formidable on a court where she gets time to set up...

That might be an "injury" break for you if you were Chinese and said that.

(Irina needs a better p/r firm. (hopefully outside of Belarus/Russia)
