Italy raided factories & found that Armani and Dior bags are made by illegal Chinese workers in Italy who sleep in the workshop and make €2-3/hr. Both companies have been placed under Italian court administration.
Dior paid a supplier $57 to assemble* a handbag that sells for $2,780
Armani bags that were sold to consumers for €1,800 cost €93* to make.
(These don’t include raw materials costs)
People often wrongly conflate higher prices for higher ethical standards.

For a consumer it's very difficult to buy clothing and be sure no one has been exploited. Regardless of price being paid...

If everybody is being exploited, isn't that the market telling you that is what the wages are to be?
I know, it sounds cruel. And the exploitation in this case is because the item sold sells for thousands of dollars, each one. So it is obvious that the company could be paying better. So, luxury items manufacturing sounds even more evil.

It’s interesting when people on here insist things like alterations and shoe repair are the domain of the wealthy, when that’s stuff normal people have been doing for years to make their clothes last longer. Because things like waterproofing your shoes for cheap helps them last.
The truth is sustainable practices are what people have always done. Throwaway clothing is what’s new.
I feel strongly that it’s so important to emphasize this, because whenever sustainable fashion come up, people jump right to $85 t-shirts, and what I’m talking about is stuff like polishing your shoes, not using dryer sheets, and waiting a little bit before you buy something.
Folks love to bring up Vimes Boot Theory, but mans was absolutely taking care of his 1 pair of boots rather than throwing them away because he had 6 other cheap pairs he bought using the Temu special.

One of the things I try to stress is that celebrity status, money, and even handsomeness are unrelated to clothes. My friend @urban_comp, pictured above, is uncommonly handsome, but not a celebrity or unusually rich. Yet, his outfit fits better, I think

For some reason RW men in this country keep going after Derek Guy for his commentary on mens styling. They're fighting a losing battle.
