P1/3
The shtick of this guy is to police the style superiority of the liberal left and mock every non-lefty for being a weirdo or deplorable.

He’s of course right. Hoi polloi don’t dress as well, they don’t get it. They cannot decipher the subtle codes of the upperclass, la distinction.

This cultural and symbolic capital is most valuable to the liberal elites. It makes their creed, however factually wrong or even evil, a social aspiration to everyone. These people feel utter contempt for the poor shmock but even more so for the social climber who’s made a fortune or pulled himself out of misery by other means but just doesn’t get class.

Ultimately the politics of the left is nothing but this style policing, an amalgam of expensive beliefs and conspicuous empathy. They hold their believes not because they are true or helpful but because they signal distinction, because they ARE expensive. They show off that they can afford them.

Derek Guy also doesn’t get that if McGregor were able to decipher the codes, the codes would need to change. It’s not that McGregor doesn’t get what’s “comme il faut” but that it’s such BECAUSE McGregor doesn’t get it. He’s set up to fail. It’s zero sum. It’s a racket.
And of course, nowadays you can't even write about fashion without somebody making it political.
It is tyring.
(I side with Derek).

This is in response to MAGA trying to create a scandal around the $800 Tiffany pearl earrings the Vice President wore during the debate.

For a long time he just posted about men's styling and fashion with no political context or references. Then for whatever reason the right wing came after him and he has pushed back.

BTW the suits that look horrific on TFG are from Brioni, one of the top custom suit houses for men.

Giving it the Derek Guy once over:

Lapel notches at the shoulder - yes
Lapel's roll when suit jacket is buttoned - yes
The suit jacket length is appropriate.
No collar gap because he's wearing a turtleneck
We also can't see if the pants are at the proper point on the torso but he looks fine to me...

Things you've never heard, and never will:
"I want to look like Jimmy Carter..."
(Never mind the fashion aspects).

Ugh, same level as it ever was, now there's social media to shine a light on (but not stop) it. :(
