by JTContinental I just read Stefani has won 6 titles in the last year with 6 different partners and she and Garcia just won a grass title last week, so maybe she’s feeling the energy there

by ashkor87 Krejcikova and siniakova back together!

by jazzyg Hsieh had a match point in the game before the final-set tiebreak, then led 6-3 in the tiebreak. There was about a five-minute delay at 9-all before she lost the final two points. Wonder if there was a cramping issue with the match going past three hours.

by ashkor87 Badosa is in the draw.. really playing? I thought she had a severe back strain or something..gets Alison Riske first round, pretty tough..
other first round matches with upset potential - Gauff vs Kenin (Kenin is a higher order player and has gotten grass matches under her belt in qualifying..), Sakkari - Kostyuk is another..Ot these, I would say Kenins is the most likely upset..

by ponchi101 Poll started. Six votes, maximum three per choice, maximum there choices.
(So you can go 3-2-1, or 3-3)

by ashkor87 Keeps giving me an error

My mistake. I set it up to give 3 votes, amongst 3 picks. Therefore, of course you cannot give a 3-2-1 because that is six votes. Try again.

by nelslus If I could have distributed my picks to 4 contenders, one of my votes would have gone to Ms. The Field. :gorgeous:

by JTContinental With nobody having the pressure to defend any points this year, this has the potential to have some strange and exciting results. I do hate that most of the Americans are bunched together in a tiny section of the top half of the draw.

by ponchi101 Ooooh, Muchova/Sabalenka is a possible 4R match. The stench of revenge is in the air (or of upset part deux).

Same, was surprised to see her in the draw, but she has been hitting with Tsitsipas.

I so wish Kenin could find her form from a few years ago. I love watching her when she's at her best. So smooth and instinctual.

by ponchi101 She is one of those players that support my theory that, once you leave the tour for a little while (meaning, months), it is very hard to come back to your previous level. The injuries keep you off the court, you lose a little accuracy, or a little power (see, Zverev, BH) and you are not the same player anymore.
Caveat: this applies to the regular players. The Rogers, Rafas, Novaks, Serenas and that crop are still immune to that.

by jazzyg I do not expect Badosa or Riske to play. That will likely be a matchup of two lucky losers.

by ashkor87 What is the matter with Riske, do you know?

Her father passed away a few months ago, and she's been dealing with injury.

by nelslus Kovinić has dropped out, and has been replaced by LL Hibino.

Most sites give Coco 73% chance ..a bit high...50 to 60 % would be reasonable...not that I am a bettor (illegal here though it is probably one of the biggest gambling nations in the world, mostly on cricket ) ! Kenin is a grand slam champion and still young..

50% was just to mollify the Gauff fans here! I was pretty sure Kenin would win. me just reigning (wrong spelling) it in as advised by my superiors (they think) on this forum.

by ashkor87 people playing SP must be going nuts.. what is day 2 and what is day 3? they are all running into each other! one of our trains was (in)famous for it - is it yesterday's train arriving late or is it today's arriving on time? was a common confusion!

cant even comment on what to expect today because we dont KNOW what to expect!

by ashkor87 Pegula vs Bucsa is tougher than I thought.. pretty much 50-50? what do folks think? Bucsa is in good form...

by Fastbackss Pegula had a tough first rounder. She's one of those players that I think "helps" her to have a long earlier match to get into form. I think it will be tight but she'll win in 2 long sets

by ashkor87 Woo-hoo! Play is on.

Kvitova dropped a set to PAOLINI (all of 5'4" Jasmine) and you are giving her more of a chance than Sabalenka, who beat Udvardy handily?
And none of them have played anybody of consequence. Iga beat SST, a player with no weapons.
Let's see what happens when they play somebody tough. Only match so far that I would consider of any relevance, data-wise, is Elena-Alize, because Alize has had good showings at W. And Alize is already 33, and we know she has never been a top notch player.

by ashkor87 Kvitova is a two_time champion and seems to be playing close to that level...I am not convinced about Saba' movement on grass..I don't give her much chance...

*We know no such thing concerning Cornet. She got to #11 in the world. One singles Slam QF- at the Aussie, and 5 4R results at the three other Slams. 3 wins (against 4 losses) to Serena, including beating her at Wimbledon. She beat Venus in a tournament final. Six career titles. (And 3 doubles titles.) LOL, NOT the stuff of legends. But, I think she was pretty top-notch. (Let WIKI be your friend, bub.) :gorgeous:

*Granted, their choices would round off to approximately 0% chances this year. But, I'd also give Petra more of a chance compared to Sabalenka. She DID win a grass tournament and Miami this year, and has those two Wimbledon titles. Petra can struggle against many players- Little Fat Face also took Petra to 3 sets in the first round of Wimbledon last year. But, now and then, when she gets through her struggles....And, she's been VERY!!!! underwhelming at Slams for years. AND she'll probably lose in the 2R to Sandwich- who beat Petra a few years back at Wimbledon 6-0 in the third. AND, granted, I'm biased...... :gorgeous:

Iga took her notebook with her during her bathroom break. I've never seen that before.

You can't train a 15/16 year old who is still growing like someone four or five years older.

by ponchi101 IF Andreeva fulfils the "winning" part of the equation, she's got STAR written all over her.

I understand he does a very good show. I hope she's able to attend.

by Suliso Pegula has a great chance of reaching her first GS SF. For a QF the draw could hardly be better.

In any case a new Wimbledon finalist is guaranteed from this side of the draw.

If Ons was playing like this...

Yes, could happen..,50-50 I would say...depends a lot on how Rybakina serves..kvitova didn't serve well enough...

I can't decide if I think it will happen, or I just want it to happen. Ons is my current player that I would like to most see win a major.

by ashkor87 Now that we are in the QFs..
The most interesting match is Jabeur-Ryba, the least is Swiatek-Svitolina (Svitolina has a 10% chance at best) and Vondrousova-Pegula (neither of them is really a contender do it doesn't much matter)..Saba-Keys is clearly Saba's to lose, which she might do but Keys is not going to go further either...

by jazzyg I think people are far too certain one of the big three will win Wimbledon.

They are the favorites, yes, but Jabeur, Keys and Vondrousova all have a chance, too in my estimation. There's no Djokovic out there on the women's side on grass.

Swiatek had to save match points to avoid a straight-set loss to Bencic. Sabalenka was a game away from going down in flames in the second round.

by ashkor87 Vondrousova doing well against Pegula right now..V isn't quite a Tier 1 player but she is close...Jabeur is closer, of course..

Exactly.
We keep forgetting. These "BIG THREE" have a combined 6 slams in between them, and four are Iga's. They do not walk on court with 3 games of the first set in their pockets, like Roger used to, or Novak now.
They are not a "Big Three". They are the top three, which is a big achievement, but it is far from the connotations of the first label.

by ponchi101 And The Field will be in the final.

by ti-amie For those wondering where Gaël is

And yes she's referring to Serena which took this to another level I don't want to get into here.

by ponchi101 Samples of one. Elina is Elina, Serena is Serena. What (maybe) is working for one, does not necessarily would have worked for the other.

Which is where the discussion should've ended but didn't. :|
