BTW, I also thoroughly enjoyed watching Mannarino and Halys take out Bublik and Smirky-Face Rude I mean Rune in a 3rd set tiebreaker. (IT actually was a fun match, and I love watching excellent doubles.)

Fair enough, Mistress Suliso. You still make Us Bandwagons quiver. :gorgeous:

For today, I totally wanted to avoid the other Nick bandwagon, 'cause I do think he has a legit shot at going far (OR lose to Medvedev, but, still.) And, HEY, I had also flirted with taking Draper. So, there's that.

Maybe they push men toward other sports with a bigger tradition in China.

Boy, not a lot of respect for Jiri Vesely... :P Maybe tennis isn't a big sport for the Czech men, either. And the population isn't huge - only 10 million, similar to Portugal, Greece and Sweden, none of which produce many top players these days, other than Tsitsipas (and that's Mouratoglou).
I did say to a lesser degree. The Czecks have produced some very good male players, but nowhere near the amount of very good and downright great females.
And the 10MM population makes it even more difficult to understand. That is the population of BOGOTA. They do know what they are doing.

So while I'm doing the work of pushing your 1985 Yugo Bandwagon over the finish line, you're leisurely watching an inconsequential doubles match?

I took Draper then broke my rule and changed my pick to Moutet because a French guy I take clinics from said he'd win. I hope you didn't take Moutet, because if you did, I cursed that pick both by cheating and changing.

I love me some doubles, every day. Currently watching Taylor and Caty. (I flip around matches a lot with ESPN Plus.)

OH, cool. Nothing could go wrong with Moutet!!

(....With this match, I'd have gone with your pick.)

I still can't figure out Shelby. I know the movement is not superior, but it is also not bad. Yet, she is stuck there in the 30's.
Shelby had a Vekic-esque history of losing many very close matches against higher ranked players. So, she's obviously taken a step up from that at least. But, she ain't likely to go any further. She's got almost all of the right components- very solid serve, big-babe groundstrokes, willingness to come forward. But, for me, she's like a low-rent Keys. (Except, of course, when she's playing Petra.) :gorgeous: Her movement and lack of confidence are always going to keep her back. Never gonna win anything really big.

Huh. Sock IS playing mixed (with doubles specialist Leylah- and, apparently, very well so far.) As he had dropped out of the doubles with Tommy Paul, I assumed that he was done with the tournament.

Sock's contract with Lululemon probably states that he must play one full match at the U.S. Open in order to honour his contract with them.
Because if you're going to pull out of draws, obviously the Mixed Doubles draw would be first on the list. But if that's the only one remaining, and the sponsorship contract says you've got to play at least one full match to get paid, then...

What do we think about Jack Draper? Until very recently he has been flying under the radar. For me at least.

Cute!

Did you mean tennis? Big potential, I've heard. Love that he's another NCAA guy. Haven't seen much, personally. I took FAA early because I thought Draper would be dangerous, and I took Draper today originally but got talked into switching... guess I should actually watch him a bits

He's got a lot of good strokes. Also has size. And, still young. So, he can become part of the new crop. I saw him play only once (I think Cincy) and he can crush the ball.

Good match from Andy, but he is nowhere near any level to be a realistic challenge for any slams anymore.

NCAA? He's only 20 and Wikipedia says he's been a pro for few years already. Perhaps you meant someone else.
