Sure he could and might get a couple, but Alcaraz is already annoited. He has more hype and more potential, and better results so far - higher ranking, bigger titles. Hence my feeling that he'd be accepted as a Slamless #1 more readily than Ruud would.

I say the next few RG's will see a combination of Ruud/Alcaraz winning, reaching finals ar being very much in the mix. And Ruud has a very good chance of winning it.
So sure, why not?

I mean, blah-blah-blah-blah with these terrible tours ranking systems. I mean, unless Alcaraz or Ruud win the US Open and pretty much everything after the Open- Rafa has to be considered as the #1 for the year. Two Slam victories, and a Wimbledon SF....as sick as it makes me to say this ( :bang: )*- I'm pretty well set that Rafa is the #1 for this year.

Also a distinct possibility that Ruud doesn't maintain this very high current standard with his career.

....I would BTW love living in a world where Zverev, Tsitsipas and The Other Deplorables never win a Slam title. Bad enough that Zverev has a Gold medal. Otherwise- let these mugs have the careers of Berdych, Tsonga, Gasquet, etc., etc. :gorgeous:

The unofficial #1. Sure. Lendl was #1 in 89, by rankings. Everybody gave it to Becker, with his W and USO wins.
Bets year is Rafa's. The rest is up for debate.

Nadal will get his player of the year trophy. 50/50 whether he stays #1 as well. More likely not if he doesn't play after USO.

Does anybody know when was the last time the men's draw had no slam winners playing in the QFs?

OHHHHH, Mateo, you temptress. You had some set points on return, served for the third set....and, back to suckage. Back to doubles for me very soon, I suspect.

Oh, I think it's highly likely that Rafa's computer #1 ranking is going away, regardless. I honestly think it would be foolish for him to play again this year. Heal up for the next year.

Never mind, I have a short memory. Ok, but before the 2020 USO which was the crazy Covid year...?

I know a fair amount of trivial tennis history- but, I don't have a clue. :)

Matteo woke up in time to force a third set TB but he's already down 1-3...

Did you miss that he was a break up most of this set?
