Doesn't look promising for Berrettini...17% (!!!) 2nd serve win rate early in the 2nd set.

I remember reading somewhere that Ruud said last week that he's going after the #1 ranking. It really seems like he is...

Does he have many points to defend this fall? Even if he does not get the #1, Rafa will play sparsely, and Daniil does have a lot of points to defend.
Sure, it would spark the inevitable "#1 with no Slams" critique, but that would be expected.

First of all Alcaraz is also in the running for #1 and second Ruud only gets there with a final as long as Alcaraz is not his opponent.

Imagine Ruud being #1 without winning a Slam. Thanks, Wimbledon. Weakest #1 in decades on the men's side. Who was the last Slamless ATP #1?

Rios. But he had reached the Aussie open a few weeks before that.
Of course, Ruud reached the RG final a little while ago.
And he is the exception. The other major player to reach #1 with no slams ever was Lendl, and he was roasted. What people did not realize was that the rankings were telling us what would happen. Lendl then became a very solid #1, as we all know.

How about Alcaraz being #1 without a Slam title? That is also possible.

Is it? ESPN was talking about it, and showed a graph that Ruud or Alcaraz can only be #1 if they win the title. Any other result and it will be Nadal.

This would be more accepted because he's expected to be #1 at some point, won a couple 1000s this year, and is seen as a worthy heir to Nadal and Djokovic. All of Ruud's titles are 250s.

Found it - 480 points. According to the site below both could do it with a final alone. Kyrgios def Alcaraz final seems fairly likely to me.

Ruud could also win Slams. Why not? He's only 23 and already in the top 5.
