Sabalenka is on a mission. Sabalenka vs Garcia final now looks better than 50/50 chance.

Uhm, I say Ons can throw considerable junk at Garcia, and throw her off her game.
I say the four possible combinations will all have 25% chance of happening. (Once semis are over).

I don't think I agree that all combinations have an equal chance. None are <5%, but equal certainly not.

At 4-6 in the TB, down match point, Pliskova threw in a soft first serve to the FH. Sabalenka returned it pretty easily for a winner. Weird serve. Maybe trying to bait a FH error from Sabalenka? I do that against big hitters. But what an odd choice down match point in a Slam.

If they had told you that Sabalenka would play an entire match NOT facing a single BP, would you believe it?
That was very impressive.

This is someone who was serving underhand at the start of the year. Incredible. And good for her after being banned from Wimbledon.

As I said few days ago that Kanepi choke might have given a new life to Sabalenka.

Maybe. Definitely has happened before when a player survives a match point. Caro Australian Open 2018, as I've mentioned before.

If Sabalenka serves like that, I retract my comment that Garcia cannot lose as long as he holds her nerve.

I still expect Garcia to win the tournament, but Sabalenka can beat anyone if she duplicates her performance from today. If I hadn't lost in the Suicide pool with Azarenka over Pliskova, I would have boxed myself into a corner by picking Sabalenka today. Even if Pegula beats Swiatek, which I expect to happen but is not under her control, I don't give her much shot at beating this Sabalenka.

We should however remember that Pliskova is a limited player. Great at serving, mediocre at returning and moving. Against a different player Sabalenka might not have fared as well.

The only thing about Sabalenka now is that she plays are breakneck speed. There is nothing at 90%; not even 80% or 70%. Every ball is crushed at 100%. And in those days in which you are a bit off, that usually translates into disaster.
But if she plays like today, she will be tough to beat. Her serve was damn good today.

The obvious problem here is: No one has any idea which Sabalenka will show up for the next match or two. She certainly had a monstrous serving day today- incredible second serves on big points.

Would it kill people to just say she has played a great tournament, better than anyone expected, and leave it at that? Why does there have to be a negative? Y’ll are straining for negative things to say. This is what WTA players deal with - and women in general - that men don’t, for the most part.
