I have no issues with him.
Roddick became almost insufferable on court at times, the way he went after lines people and umpires. I never HATED him but it was hard to watch sometimes. I often rooted for him, particularly in the 2009 Wimbledon final, even though I was a Fed fan and wanted Roger to get 15 then. I also wanted Roddick to get another Slam and beat Fed in a big match at least once. Roddick definitely took his lumps from Roger with grace, for the most part. He had (and has) more good qualities than bad, for sure. But the recent canonizing of Roddick by Tennis Channel has turned me off. They fall over themselves laughing at every little thing he says, and it's usually not that funny. I guess that's not his fault. I love his wisdom and insight into tennis, though.

He came to Indy a few years ago for a fundraiser for Rajeev Ram's foundation. I believe he's a truly good guy. Just wish he hadn't humiliated line judges so much.
Indeed, Roddick was extremely arrogant on the court - particularly in the last half of his career. I couldn't stand him. He was so incredibly smug - it was clear that he knew he could get away with it because he was the top American player. The way he treated linespeople and umpires was insufferably condescending and disrespectful.
Jim Courrier was similar - terribly disrespectful to linespeople and umpires, while enjoying his 'hardworking', clean image as a player. Both of them obnoxious hypocrites.

When I saw Michael Russell saying 'thank you' to the ball kids every time they gave him a ball, or his towel - EVERY time -, I commended Russell for that. He replied "Yeah - the ball kids and linespeople often get treated like (expletive) by players - I won't mention any names - cough, cough Andy Roddick cough, cough - so I try to let them know that some of us appreciate them."
Russell called Roddick out? That's awesome. There was a theory that Conners was telling Roddick to get mean on court when they were together But it lasted longer than Conners.

What did he do on court?

Something to do with time violation while serving. But he stopped play and wouldn't continue until he dished out some verbal and was told he wouldn't get fined.

Was Lleyton Hewitt mentioned? For obvious reasons I definitely loathe him. I try to not remember him at all, but he's like a bad penny and I saw him yesterday with Team Australia and thought he surely deserved a mention in this thread.

Gee, indeed I had forgotten him in that aspect. One player that indeed had to be shot with a tranquilizer before going on court. And some after after.

One person I do loathe, although not a player, is Judy Murray. I had the (mis)fortune of sitting right beside the box during the Wimbledon final 2016. She was up on her feet screeching on almost every point Andy won-including every Raonic error. But if Milos won a point, even a spectacular winner, she’d be sat there stoned faced not even a clap. Seeing as Andy bossed that match from start to finish there was absolutely no need for her to to be so disrespectful towards Raonic. I’m not even particularly a Milos fan but she had me praying that he would win every point

That's weird and sad. I want to know how you got seats by the player's box!

I got them in the ballot. The one and only time I was successful for a final-and I got the worst final in living memory

Still, you got to see a Brit win Wimbledon! You can tell your grandkids someday. What was it like to be there?

Yeah, and Heather won the mixed doubles right after, in a much more entertaining match! I’ve been a few times before in earlier rounds and I kinda prefer that with more people milling around and matches to choose from. On finals day I was hungover, it was cold, and the insufferable Judy caught my eye far too often, but like you said I did witness a big event in British sporting history with 3 Brits (Gordon Reid won the wheelchair in a match I didn’t see) lifting a trophy on the final Sunday :) I’ve applied every year since and not even been offered a sausage

Early rounds at tournaments are so much more fun. On final day, the place can empty out super fast after the match and it's depressing - that's how I felt at Cincinnati. They were tearing down the arena as we left, taking out the flowers and pulling down signage. And plus, as you said, fewer matches and people.

The best time to go to an event is the first couple of days (if it's a regular tournament) or once or twice during the first week if you can swing it. We like to go Day 1 of the open and then Day 3 or 4. There is so much to do and see then. I went once with a friend who couldn't make it until Labor Day and I was bored out of my mind.

With the Wimbledon ballot you can’t specify a day or court, you just get what you are given. I did buy tickets for second Monday at RG last year (the May version) as I’ve never attended a tournament outside the Uk, but was refunded when they re-scheduled. Was hoping to go this year instead but doubt that will happen

Completely agree. The latest I've been is the Round of 16 and I know I wouldn't want to go any later than that unless I'm able to attend multiple days of the tournament. I think my favorite may be Round 3, still a ton going on, but the quality of the matchups has increased.

Also, maybe this isn't an issue at other tournaments because ticketing is different, but the later you go in the tournament, the longer the line to get in to see a match it seems. The first couple of times I went to the USO, I don't really remember standing in many lines, so this might be the increased attendance over the years, but the lines to get into Louis Armstrong, Grandstand, and I believe Court 11 and Court 18 by the weekend made you wonder if you should've come just a couple of days earlier.

I've only been to Slams and all four times it was either the first weekend or the first Friday + Saturday. So a mixture of R3 and R4, an ideal time to go in my opinion.
