by ponchi101 Good for me that the women get to play early. I get to watch them.
Novak/Andrei at 3:00 AM my time. I can skip.

by Deuce Linette is definitely the surprise of the tournament.
And she continues to be, taking the first set off of Pliskova.
I hope she continues moving forward - it's always good to have a fresh face in the mix.
On serve midway through the 2nd...

by ponchi101 2nd set not over, and Pliskova with already 29 UE's.
I gather she is always bound to have a at least a match like this one.

by Irena2 Love Linette's candid answers in the interview.

by jazzyg I hope Linette wins the tournament.

There's no one left in the draw I like at all, although Sabalenka, Rybakina or Azarenka would be worthy champions.

by Irena2 Linette is the only one with a decent kit, too ;)

by atlpam Donna looks very nervous.

by martini4me That was a shockingly bad service game. And yet she managed to hold.

by Owendonovan In a way, it feels as though Aryna is overestimating Donna.

by martini4me This is quickly becoming a horror show.

The head-to-head is 5-1 in favour of Vekic...

by ashkor87 Sabalenka not serving as well today. vekic might melt in the heat...

I don't feel the match is on Donna's raquet, I also don't think Aryna thinks that. Sabalenka can beat anyone right now, if her head is screwed on straight.

It's quite rare that that happens with her over an entire tournament.
Especially in Majors.

by JazzNU They also have a deceiving H2H. A few of those wins were when Sabalenka was ranked in the 100s, not remotely close to the version of the player that emerged in 2018 and that we know now. Despite being kinda close in age, Donna has been around for a very long time on tour.

by ashkor87 It is simply too hot..both Saba and Vekic are struggling...they really should not play the AO at this time of year in Melbourne..

by ponchi101 It's 29°C today, 45% humidity. I don't think that's bad.

by ponchi101 Totally deceptive score. Could it be the best match ever that ended 3 & 2?
(There must have been others. And I said ENDED 3 & 2. Lots of very close games)

by martini4me Best match?? With 22 double faults and the players winning only 26% and 35% of their second serve points? I hope I never have to see an average match if that's in the running for best.

Also, I hope I never have to see Jelena Dokic doing another on-court interview. Consistently asking the most inane (and the bar is pretty low to begin with) questions. "So do you like Melbourne? What are you going to do tonight, watch a movie?" Begone!

Best match with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Obviously, not a great match, but it was closer than the score says.
Total winners: 69. More than 3 winners per game. That was good.

by Suliso Virtually zero chance of anyone beating Djokovic in this tournament. Unfortunately... Doesn't look very promising for challengers in the remaining Slams either.

by Deuce Honestly - this stuff has to completely bore even the most ardent Djokovic fans.
No-one can truly enjoy watching this level of predictable dominance time after time after time...
It will surely not attract new fans to tennis, either.

by Suliso I agree, but on the other hand it's up to other players to raise their game to match Djokovic's level of play.

Hundreds of players have tried to do that ^ for about the past 15 years. All have been unsuccessful - except for 2, maybe 3, of them! :)

He's a great player, obviously... But, as I said a couple of days ago - now that Federer is gone and Nadal and Murray are in decline, tennis as a whole will be significantly better off without Djokovic's 1 person dominance.

When they showed a stat that Vekic had hit her 7th double, and it hit me "wait, this is her third service game", that's when I decided the winners from the baseline were not worth it

Everybody has their ceiling. I think we have reached the point in which it is not a matter of "raising" their level. It is just that he is truly a more natural and talented player than, well, everybody else. So they really can't come up to his level.
And he is extremely focused on one thing. He wants to make it clear he is the GOAT; no asterisks, no exceptions. He wants to have so many slams it will be impossible to introduce any "BUT" in the conversation.
