by ashkor87 Kyrgios resurfaces! Great to see. .

by ponchi101 Sure. How far can he go? He has been away for quite some time, and grass is so tricky after leg/hips surgeries. But he has to get ready for Wimby.

by texasniteowl I know Berrettini has been out with injury, but that was a pretty one sided score for Sonego. Ouch.

by ponchi101 The reason I was not touching him with a 10 Mt long strand of pasta for the GA contest. He has been out too long, and it is not as if he was playing scorching tennis before that.

Yeah ponchi, you were right. he looked awful yesterday. i don't have a lot of faith that he's going to do anything between now and Wimbledon. Looks like I will need to use a trade on him.

by jazzyg Berrettini missed three straight months last year with an injury and won Stuttgart and Queen's Club immediately upon his return.

I saw no reason he could not do it again. I saw wrongly.

I was much less surprised by Kyrgios coming up lame today and basically not running at all from late in the first set to the end of his match. He doesn't train and he doesn't take care of himself, so any injury is a problem for him.

by ponchi101 Nick likes to rely on his truly admirable talent; he oozes that, and we know it.
I am a bit confused by your post; the ATP site still has no scores for his match. Did he lose already, or is he still scheduled to play?

The ATP site does not seem to be up to date - Kyrgios is out to Wu in straight sets.

by jazzyg Tennis Channel did not pick up the Kyrgios match until 6-5 on serve in first set while they showed the end of Venus's match.

Kyrgios promptly dumped his serve with two double faults and rarely went for balls side to side in the second set, winning three games on his serve alone. The commentators said he had come up lame midway through the first set and told his camp he could not move. It was tough to watch. He was serving well and returning OK, but that was it. If Wu hit it close to the line, Kyrgios did not move in either direction.

by ti-amie I watched a replay of the Wu/Kyrgios match on TennisTV. Kyrgios is not fully recovered from injury. Anyone who has had lower back/hip problems recognized the way he got up after each changeover. I'm not a fan of Kyrgios but when I saw that I thought Wu had a good chance to win and he did, 7-5, 6-3.

Serious here. How good is it to come back from a hip/back injury and start playing on grass? The tale that it is softer on the body than other surfaces seems to be outdated; might have been when players were S&V'ling, but now, all the low bending and scooping balls seem to put a lot of stress there.

Wu did a lot of that - hitting shots that made Kyrgios have to bend to reach. The area around the baseline is already pretty chewed up.

I think of the two natural surfaces clay is easier on the body if you know how to play on it. Because grass is slippery your muscles have to work differently and from what I saw today I'll be surprised if Kyrgios does well on grass. I could be wrong of course and physical therapists can work wonders but I know what I saw today and it's worrisome.

by ponchi101 You know have said grass has become the most dangerous surface, because you will slip OUT of control. On clay, you slip/slide under control. Sure, we have seen injuries on clay, but the injuries to Serena, Delpo and Roger were on grass, and I am not sure if any of the three has truly recovered.

by ponchi101 Two American men in the top 10.
Starting to look a bit better.

by ti-amie Ever since Frances got rid of his friend and hired Wayne Ferreira he's moved up the rankings. So far it's the best move he's made. Ferreira is like David Witt in the players box, no histrionics, just a solid presence.
