Apparently (I didn't see it) Djokovic tried to serve and volley at 40-0, 5-5 jn the first set, for the first time in the match..he got passed and never recovered in that set..an illustration of not knowing when to get to the net..but I do find it amazing- this is a player who has every record, has won everything there is to win, but he still has areas he can get better at..!

Is Hurkacz actually eligible to qualify for the semis? Or is he just a filler, with no rights ? With his big serve, he could actually beat Djokovic and Rune..then what?

Hurkacz can't advance - he gets prize money, and ranking points if he wins.

I mean technically he's eligible. But he has no chance. First criteria is wins - possible he could tie Djokovic and Rune with 1 win each. But critiera 2 is number of matches played and he would lose that.

QUALIFICATION SCENARIOS:Image
With Hurkacz winning a set, Sinner is through.

Interestingly, this third set now means nothing. Rune wins group if he wins today and is out if he loses.

Djokovic's fate is out of his hands.

Which of course means he wins the third set no problem, 6-1.

Sinner wins 6-4 and is through in first place. Djokovic finishes second.

I actually forced myself to stay awake and watch Sinner vs Rune. Rune's immaturity cost him that match. The minute he started fighting with the chair I knew he would lose despite taking the second set.

As for Sinner I'm still meh. He's very quick around the court and makes decent decisions during a match, something Rune is going to have to learn to do/

Anyway if it was Djokovic's intent to make the two young guns slug it out while he rested he got what he wanted. Sinner kept fiddling with his lower left back but never called the physio. Rune got his upper calf taped.

Sinner and Alcaraz are the future of tennis....maybe on fast courts and slow respectively...both are complete players
