some commentators are saying Medvedev will lose to ALcaraz because he wont try hard enough.. I find that mildly insulting - these are all professionals, they dont want to lose.. and in future, the result, whichever way it gos, will weigh on their minds. Medvedev would not want to give Alcaraz the confidence, since he may meet him soon, either here in the finals, or at the AO, hard to see him giving Alcaraz an easy pass.

Tend to agree, they are competitors first. Probably have a hard time turning it off. They are programmed to try to win every match or they wouldn't be so good. But I can see some circumstances where they might not try their absolute hardest in every situation, and that might lead to a loss. I think they can live with it if it's a strategic decision, and the opponent knows and it doesn't have the same psychological effect.

What would prompt these commentators to say such a thing? It's not like Medvedev is some notorious tanker of matches.

Well we wouldn't be discussing them if they hadn't said it would we? ;)

Alcaraz wins in two sets and wins group, Medvedev second.

Semis will be Sinner-Medvedev and Djokvoic-Alcaraz

what is your guess? I certainly think Sinner will be in the finals and Djokovic will, too but I am a bit less confident of that.. maybe 65-35 and 55-45 respectively..

Round two of Sinner vs Djokovic was a conventional choice and this time the right one as well. After the first game where Alcaraz had two bp's he didn't stand a chance.

Who'll win the final now? I think it's pretty close, but small edge to the old guy. He just knows how to bring these things home.
