Very impressed with Bejlek..first time I have seen her..looks a bit like MCNally..?

Bejlek is giving Leylah what for. Leylah was up 2-0 early and now she's serving to force a tie break in the first set.

Court doesn't look particularly fast..Brisbane looked faster...

Tough fight but Leylah takes the first set 7-6(5).

Parks serving very badly, struggling against Snigur .who is a junior Wimbledon champion herself...

Krejcikova really had to struggle to defeat the Japanese wild card in 2:26. A lot of kvetching and back-and-forth with her coach.

Re: Alycia's "win" today.....SO, at 4-4 in the third, one of the multiple deuces....of all things, Snigur appeared to be crying. I mean, sure, after John and I had been forever watching Alycia alternating break point aces with random double faults, errors into the bottom of the net, shrieking winners, and genuflecting to the Almighty, we wanted to cry, too. Nevertheless.....once Alycia crawled through that game, Snigur finished herself off. Serving with such a lack of pace that would have made Frankie Durr blush (google/wiki her), even Alycia was forced into smacking return winners, thus ending this atrocity. WHAT a treat!!!!!

Anisimova is back. Takes out #13 Samsonova who has been struggling recently.

I completely forgot that this started a day early this year. I thought I was clicking on a preview show when I saw it on tv guide. I guess we'll see whether any matches continue into the early morning hours now.

Sheesh.....Down 5-6 in the fifth set, love-40, Seyboth Wild saves these and other match points......goes up double mini-breaks in the fifth set tiebreaker, playing absolutely fantastic tennis....and falls apart. Rublev obviously hung in there, playing well enough....but, again..... Sheesh!!!!!!
