Fernandez - Awww, thank you! You believe in me! I'd like to thank the Academy... Oh, wait, you're just trying to suck up to the contest administrator! Actually, this looks like the classic "last safe time to pick her" strategy. Gets Parks next then likely Gauff. Solid choice. (And she's already though, so you got the benefit of sleeping easy, too.)

Krejcikova - Way too soon. Her next round is soft and she's in Jabeur's section of the draw. You're going all in on Alexandrova to advance from there, huh?

Sakkari -

Dolehide - Plays a qualifier, who just won three matches. On the bright side, she had that great run to the final of Guadalajara last fall. On the scary side, she hasn't won a main-draw match in a Slam since 2018.

B. Fruhvirtova - There were safer choices, but I like the strategy of picking the match right next to a title favorite. Classic.

Bektas - Why aren't we friends, Lokomotiv Lemnos? Betkas lives in my hometown, but even I didn't have the nerve or loyalty to pick her.

Cornet - For old time's sake? Or because you've never heard of her opponent, Timofeeva?

First day, I always like to play safe ..and Sakkari is someone I don't expect to see in week 2 but she is good, so won't lose to random players...that was my thinking anyhow

ANOTHER rookie contest-admin mistake.

9 people picked against the #1 junior in the world! Who is also the reigning AO junior champion..these juniors just don't get respect!!

Jumping from the juniors to the pros is not easy. And, besides, the whole purpose if to pick a winner, not show respect

Although not the match I picked, I'm guessing there are at least 9 people other than myself who don't know who the defending junior or #1 junior player in the world is I'm doing well just keeping up with the main tour!
