2024 Green Acres: How It Works
Posted: Mon Jun 03, 2024 2:58 pm
Greetings, TATers and welcome to Green Acres 2024, TAT's annual grass court fantasy tennis competition. And with this year being an Olympic one, the grass court season is truly squeezed in between a whole lot of gravel tournaments and possibly slighty different priorities for certain players. Who would prefer to stay on the clay and pass on the grass? Who will be aiming for succes in both London and Paris? It's time to think green
Pick Your Team
You MUST select twelve players between the ATP and WTA (six from each tour), to be chosen from five categories. Each category contains a segment of the current top-100 ranked players.
For the ATP/WTA selection, you need to:
Pick THREE players from category A, FOUR from category B, TWO from categories C and D and ONE from category E.
When complete, a team could look something like this.
Category A: Sabalenka, Djokovic, Hurkacz
Category B: Muchova, Krejcikova, Jarry, Tiafoe
Category C: Potapova, Frech
Category D: Bronzetti, Nardi
Category E: Altmeier
It is completely up to YOU how you distribute your six ATP and six WTA picks. If you want to fill up the A list with three ATP players, that is your choice/risk. The mission is to find the right balance.
If you think you have spotted the next Roger Federer or Serena Williams, but they are currently ranked somewhere in the 100's or beyond, you have the option to put that player on your team as a "Wild Card". You may trade Wild Card players as you would any other player, but you are limited to no more than one Wild Card player on your roster for any given week. The Wild Card is optional. If you want to pick a player from the E group listing, you may do so.
Rules
Remember the most important rule! Your team must include six ATP men and six WTA women at all times. If you end up with an inaccurate gender balance as a result of trades (e.g., seven men and five women), your trade will be cancelled, but you will still have used those trades.
Also, no two contestants may have the same initial team, so your original 12-player team must be different from all other previously posted teams by at least one player. It is your individual responsibility to check the teams that have been posted and make sure yours does not exactly duplicate a team that already has been posted. We will do our best to check entries as they are posted to enforce this, but to save yourself some possible grief later on, we strongly urge each participant to check the teams that already have been posted and make sure your team is different to avoid disqualification.
The Deadline
Your initial team is due before the scheduled start of play for a main draw match for week 1's tournaments -- come rain, shine or monkeys from Jupiter. You must post your team in the "Post Your Team Here" thread. Any and all entries posted at a later time or in the wrong thread(s) will NOT be accepted.
Trades
Should certain players fall short of expectations, there will be SIX ATP/WTA trades for you to use to get your team back in contention.
As always, any trades need to be made in the week BEFORE the next tournament starts, otherwise the traded player will not earn points until the tournament after that. There will be a "Trades" thread once the competition has started.
Again, please remember that your team must include six ATP men and six WTA women at all times.
The Points, The Tournaments, The Players
Each player on your team will be awarded points depending on how deep she or he goes in each tournament. NOTE: Even if a player withdraws or retires from a match, you will receive full credit for the round that player reached.
The next post in this thread shows the tournaments and the points which can be won. There are four weeks of tournaments over the five-week contest (Wimbledon, of course, takes two weeks). The posts after that lists the players in each of the categories.
And Then?
Whatever happens, we can sit down and talk about it in a civilized manner in the Strawberry Lounge thread.
Oh, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the this thread.
Best of luck!
