Match of the day- Alexandrova vs Raducanu...Alexandrova is one of my faves but Raducanu is a player of a higher class...

Pliskova - Shnaider could be interesting too..though I expect Pliskova will win...
Muchova - badosa...could tell us a lot about whether Muchova is really back yet ..

I think Swiatek has decided to take W lightly and focus on Olympics (which she is almost certain to win)..to a Pole, Olympics means a lot, more than to, say, an American..coming in to Wimbledon without a single grass court match shows her intent...

This American thinks there's no higher achievement in sports than the Olympics.

Yes, but you are American..do you know how non-Americans see it? I remember Dementieva, when she won the Olympic gold, saying the ordinary Russian recognizes her in the street, more than they recognize the grand slam champions..
I think the US has so many Olympic Champions that any one of them doesn't stand out...a country like Poland doesn't ...

In tennis there are 4 clear achievements higher than the Olympics. I say the YEC's are also higher.
For many players, there are local tournaments that also rank higher (Rome for the Italians, Buenos Aires for the Argentinians, Santiago for the Chileans, etc).

I think it really depends on the individual. Winning Wimbledon would be a crowning achievement for a tennis player, but for many, the opportunity to be an Olympian and compete in the Olympics is also a dream come true.

ESPN just said Alexandrova has withdrawn, so Raducanu gets a lucky loser.
