Yes, chef! The 2024 Emmy nominations have officially been served.
On Wednesday, Abbott Elementary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and Arrested Development star Tony Hale announced this year’s contenders for the 76th Annual Emmy Awards, and it was a sweet, sweet sweep for The Bear. FX's hit chef series, which won six awards at the 2023 Emmys, saw its second season become the most-nominated comedy series in Emmys history with a record-breaking 23 nominations.
Meanwhile, Shōgun reigned supreme in the drama category, earning 25 nominations including nods for its stars Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Takehiro Hira, and Néstor Carbonell.
This year also saw a royal sendoff for The Crown, which received 18 nominations for its final season, including a first-time nomination for Dominic West for his performance as Prince Charles. The list also celebrated several new series like Fallout, plus the Donald Glover and Maya Erskine-led Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which each earned 16 nods, respectively.
All television shows, limited series, or made-for-TV film entries must have been released between June 1, 2023 and May 31, 2024 in order to be in consideration for this year's ceremony. That time period not only includes the return of celebrated comedies like The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and Only Murders in the Building, but also popular dramas like Fargo, Shōgun, and the final season of The Crown.
The Emmys are voted upon each year by the members of the Television Academy. The final round of voting will come to a close on Aug. 26, less than a month before the ceremony is set to air live on Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.
Check out the full list of nominees below as we update live. (Next post)
