A very good showing!

Commentary:
There Will Be Blood: We have people on both sides of the Davidovich Fokina vs Shang match.
Should be good picks: Fils, Lehecka, Humbert, Machac, Gaston, Nishikori
Probably good picks: Vukic, Nishioka, Hayls
I don't know enough: Bu
Might be too early: Ruud

And then there are the Reilly Opelka picks. He retired from his last match due to a back injury. The match before that he beat Novak Djokovic. So, if his back is OK, then this pick is probably too early. If his back is not OK, then he might not win this match. My plan was to wait a round or two to see how he is doing before picking him. However, you might know more about his current condition than I do.

by JTContinental It looks like 6 matches were also dropped from the schedule to accommodate matches that didn't finish on Day 1. Not sure what dave g wants to do to mitigate, but the matches that were dropped are:

Diallo vs Nardi
Giron vs Hanfmann
Arnaldi vs Musetti
Mannarino vs Kachanov
Comesana vs Altmaier
Bautist Agut vs Shapavolov

I am sticking to the original schedule of matches, even though this means that there will be a lot of matches played later than originally scheduled. So that if a match was originally scheduled to be played on Day 2, it will remain a Day 2 match even if its start is postponed until Day 3.

Thanks. I had to create the Day 3 match list by taking the full draw and deleting the original Day 1 and Day 2 matches. I obviously missed deleting that match.

by Improbabledream I'm surprised that nobody picked comesano for day 2. He's the guy that took Rublev out of wimbledon last year.

Maybe good pick: Tien, Hijikata, Kecmanovic, Shelton, Sonego, Carreno Busta, Coric

About Mpetchi Perricard: his opponent, Monfils, won a tournament last week. This will be a tough match.

You obviously didn't use him too early. My interpretation is that may have been the only chance to use him. If so, great call.

by ashkor87 Yes,Rune hasn't really lived up to his promise .

by G2gaynor Yikes, that's a lot dead after just the first round! Could have been even bloodier too!

by ptmcmahon Crash!

by ashkor87 Popyrin took out a lot of people too!

by naughtyT aussie aussie aussie oy vey oy vey oy vey.

by ashkor87 A bit early to lose half the field!

by karlovicfanclub If I hadn't picked Tien, I probably would have gone with Popyrin. Glad I didn't have a change of heart. As it was, I thought I was in trouble after watching Tien lose the first set, and was pleasantly surprised to check the scores when I woke up this morning to see that he had won. I dodged a bullet, at least, for one day.

by dave g Day 4 Pick Summary

We have 44 54people, but one of the had trouble with their Day 3 pick and made use of the Day 3.5 Pick option.
So we have 44 54 people and 45 55picks

Start 45 55

Humbert 24
Fils 8
Bonzi 7

Cazuax 1
Draper 1
Fearnley 1
Paul 1
Ruud 1
Thompson 1

Alive 36 46

Comments:
Wow, we are all over the place. 12 picks out of 16 matches.

There Will Be Blood, again: We have picks on both sides of the Cazaux vs Fearnley match. I haven't been able to watch either of them play, but beating Kyrgios doesn't cause me to have a lot of confidence in Fearnley. We will see.

Probably good picks: Lehecka, Bonzi, Draper, Korda, Thompson, Auger-Aliassime, Humbert, and Fils

Less sure about: Paul
Paul is playing Nishikori, who is playing better then he (Nishikori) has for several years. Nishikori's ranking has not caught up with his improved play, so determing how well he is playing currently is difficult. This is likely to be a tough match.

Mensik: I haven't seen him play, so I don't know how confident I would be with this pick.
Paul: You will need to be careful with your future picks, but there is space in the draw for you to succeed.
Zverev: You will need Zverev to lose one of his next to matches to beat the draw. Admittedly, the goal is to beat everyone else, and not necessarily to beat the draw. But your future picks will leave you with almost no room for error.

It's not clear that there any truely good picks out there. Almost every pick comes with dangers.

There Will Be Blood: We have picks on both sides of Michelsen vs Khachanov and Moutet vs Tien. If you are on the right side of one of these two matches, you should be in good shape.

Rune: This tournament, Rune has has a way of turning standard matches into 5-setters. You might be right, but this one will be hard on the nerves. If you make it through, you should be in pretty good shape.

De Minaur: Who are you going to pick on Day 9 and 11. It looks like you are headed into a tight spot.

Sinner: You should make it through today, but then what?

I picked de Minaur. If I can make it to Day 9 and 11, I will be happy to have made it that far and will deal with it. I had already used Tien and Michelsen, and I didn't have enough confidence in either Khachanov or Moutet to pick them. As for Rune, there's nothing predictable about him, and at this stage in pool, I wasn't ready to throw my chances on him or Kecmanovic.
I was already taking a flyer with Lys in the women's pool for Day 7.

Sorry about that. You were never marked red in my records. The problem was from the player listed after you. When I mark someone red, I have to mark them red at the beginning of the line, and turn the red off at the end of the line. When I marked the player after you red, I forgot to turn the red off at the end of the line. For some reason, this turned your line red when I posted it to this thread. There were several other possible people accidentally showing up red, but they should be fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

I have no clue why that happened. I checked my records, and you were not red. So, I re-did the copy-and-paste, and now you are no longer red. I made absolutely no change to the source records, but your color changed.
