nelslus ....This thread is brought to you and inspired by a recent post from our Much Appreciated TAT Guru Ponchi.

I saw y'alls exchange in the other thread.
I think he cared very much about winning the match vs Tien, a 19 year old relatively untested at the elite levels of tennis. He didn't give up he lost.
by Suliso Yes, but it was his second consecutive five set match. Something is not right with him.
by JTContinental Medvedev racked up a possible $200,000 in fines plus the cost of a a net camera he went HAM on with his racket.
by Owendonovan He certainly didn't give himself the appropriate time to acclimate.

His wife did just have a baby in early January, so there really wasn't much of an option to get to Australia early.
by JTContinental Total fine was $76,000--$10,000 for the camera incident, and $66,000 for antics during his match with Tien.
by jazzyg Tien is a lot better than people realize.
Medvedev is in a funk, but that was not nearly as bad a loss as the rankings indicate.

ponchi101 Thanks, Nelslus!

Uhm, Medvedev has not done much in quite a while. And I say he is not the only one that is washed up already.
by ashkor87 Yes, Djokovic, Tsitsipas, Sakkari, among others...
by Suliso I think you have to be a champion first to be able to be washed up later.
by
ponchi101 Don't agree. Tsitsipas, for example, made two slam finals. A lot was expected from him. Sakkari was the same, although she never made a final. I think the washed up tag comes to everybody, whatever you achieved.
Just that when you are Adrian Mannarino, no one cares. Even if Nelslus says not even he cares

by Jeff from TX Sloane Stephens - she does not seem to care about putting in the work, just showing up and getting her 1st round check now.
by Suliso Not for much longer now (out of the top 100).

She said that as long as they keep paying her she'll show up. Nice.

So much so that I had forgotten about her already.

No, too early to say that.. she was injured znd out of action - her kind of game needs time to click, I think, it is a subtle and multi-faceted game.
by Owendonovan Is Zverev washed up now? He might need his own thread.

I don't think so. I think he can win a Slam, and will definitely stick around the top 10. Murray lost his first four and broke through against tougher competition. Zverev can do it (but doesn't mean he will). There's less competition to get to a final now. If Sinner is out this summer serving a drug suspension, who knows.
by ponchi101 I don't think he is washed up. But by now you have to wonder if he really can beat the top guys for a slam. Megan is right that Murray lost his first four, as did Lendl, and Goran and Agassi lost their first three. But Murray and Agassi were much younger.
But Zverev will remain competitive in MS1000's, and he has a few, if not several, more titles in his future.
Right now, I say his chances of winning a slam are less than 50%. Maybe even less than 40%. He has a very good chance of going down in history as the best player ever NOT to win a slam, or reach #1.

Yeah, this is where I land on all of it. He might need a break from the draw, but it happens. He just has to stay healthy and motivated. Sinner probably won't always redline like this. I'm not sure if Zverev can improve any part of his game.
by JTContinental I figure he'll eventually get one, but is almost always favored to be the runner up in most final matchups, unless a rando slips through.
by skatingfan Another sign of just how bad things are going.
by JTContinental Ngl, I don't hate that, although judging by the look on Medvedev's face, it might have spiked underwear or something.

I thought it looked like they let his toddler colour the bottom of the shirt.
