by ashkor87 Now Ostapenko is gone too...strange match

well 23 were.. so close to 2/3, just the stroke missing.

well, she is Russian so red...!
by JTContinental We had a relatively quiet day 1, and after booting 5 no picks and 2 souls who failed to specify which Kudermetova sister they were choosing, TMQ counts 139 players left.

I considered then quickly dismissed Kostyuk, she was one of those who led to the day 1 women's pool massacre (including me) in Paris.
by ponchi101 Aaaaaaand... Azarenka delivered the second deadly blow.
Ouch!
by JTContinental Subtracting 5 more no picks and 1 zombie, 62 players remain for day 3 after the top 2 bandwagons crashed, flinging the limbs and viscera of half the pool flying onto the road.
The breakdown
Katie Boulter 19
Elise Mertens 15
Linda Noskova 6
Elina Svitolina 5
Jasmine Paolini 4
Amanda Anisimova 3
Beatriz Haddad Maia 3

Emma Raducanu 1
Viktoriya Tomova 1
Donna Vekic 1
Marketa Vondrousova 1
by JTContinental I know I promised y'all a recap, but time got away from TMQ today. We are installing a show with 104 ceramic artists in the gallery at the moment, which has been a logistical nightmare, as you may imagine.
I promise to deliver a full Round 1 parade of losers tomorrow, where you can find out if your pick qualifies as a LAVISH LAWN or a SALIVA-ISH YAWN!
by ponchi101 Second day in a row in which the bandwagon falls off the cliff.
A brit against a LL. That should have been a given. Only 3 LL's had made 3R in all of the open era at W. Now make it 4.
by JTContinental And now for our supersized edition of LAVISH LAWN or SALIVA-ISH YAWN, a WImbledon-centric variation of STANK or DANK!
There have been so many losers in the first days that your demise is no longer special, but like a crematorium on half power, TMQ will still be here to lightly roast you into the afterlife. Was your pick a LAVISH LAWN like Center Court on Day 1 or a SALIVA-ISH YAWN like an attendee who sat in the hot sun too long watching Anastasia Sevastova play? Find out below
LAVISH LAWN
Marta Kostyuk (27 victims) This LAVISH LAWN is begrudgingly bestowed upon Kostyuk, despite her pre-tournament prep consisting of two straight set losses to Emma Navarro, since I don't know anything about her opponent (including her name, which is currently escaping me), other than that she made it farther in the draw than Kostyuk did.
Katie Boulter (19 victims) Boulter had her chance to be the breakthrough British woman that is never actually going to happen, but we are now firmly in the Sonay Kartal era.
Ons Jabeur (14 victims) Sadly, it seems to be time to add Ons to the growing list of current players whose bodies are not up to the task of remaining at the top eschelon of women's tennis.
Jasmine Paolini (4 victims) TMQ took a lot of heat last year when commenting that Paolini's obvious flash-in-the-pan results were not going to be sustainable this year, and now I think I'll just bask in the glow of the flames.
Tatjana Maria, Iva Jovic, Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova (4, 2, 1, and 1 victims) Had anyone asked TMQ (and no one has) which players to avoid picking in Round 1, he would have provided you with exactly this list. Random lead up wins and finals do not translate to grand slam success very often.
Magda Linette (4 victims) Linette pulled out of her only prep match with an injury, so may not have arrived at 100%. Can Elsa Jacquemot pull a Lois Boisson?
Jelena Ostapenko (1 victim) An Ostapenko match is a nauseating 5 star thrill ride and everyone who picks her knows what they are signing up for, so I'm assuming willing to accept the consequences
SALIVA-ISH YAWN
Victoria Azarenka (32 victims) Never really a factor on grass during her career, Azarenka is never really a factor anywhere anymore.
Greet Minnen (6 victims) Once a relatively rare occurrence, you were a victim of a player waiting until the last possible second to withdraw so that they can still get half of the first round prize money. I'd feel bad for you if this wasn't an incredibly foolish match to pick from when you had 31 other options.
Kaja Juvan (1 victim) Juvan hasn't played a grass court match since Wimbledon 2023 and Begu has been contesting at Wimbledon since they played tennis with rocks, so why did we pick from this match? Worst pick of Day 2.
Peyton Stearns (1 victim) Stearns gets a lot of love in our pools, despite being a mid player at best. She has yet to win a match here in three tries.
Anca Todoni (1 victim) Who? Was this a gambling thing? This is the Day 1 winner for worst pick of the day.
Viktoriya Tomova (1 victim) TMQ almost marked this one red immediately upon reading it. You did win something though--worst pick of Day 3!
Donna Vekic (1 victims) Vekic's bland, lackluster game is reflected in her results. Usually when she switches coaches she gets good again for a short period of time, but I guess not here.
OK, I think we are all caught up! Who will be the bandwagon that goes down tomorrow? Tune in and see!
by joanjettson And Haddad Maia...I actually want to know what's up with her if you have a minute. I had hopes.

And Haddad Maia...I actually want to know what's up with her if you have a minute. I had hopes.
my opinion is she chokes at important moments - loses focus .. and her shoulders start slumping in tight situations.. technically, her one weakness is her movement, not top notch.
by
ashkor87 JTContinental wrote: ↑Wed Jul 02, 2025 8:44 pm
Victoria Azarenka (32 victims) Never really a factor on grass during her career,
really? didnt she reach the smis or finals or something against Serena once? She is not great, but she has always been good on grass.. have seen her play on Court #3 a few years back, her service return was something to see..
checked.. twice seminfinalist (2011 and and 12), once QF, 2015. I think you are not doing her justice.
by Suliso You're right, but it's now a decade ago...

Oops, I missed her.
I would award her a light
LAVISH LAWN although TMQ does not have much conviction in her game--he finds her messy. She is like a Diet Muguruza, and I'm not sure she puts in the work off the court.

Yes, like a million years ago though. Comparatively, she's all hardcourt...
by JTContinental We are down to a lean 32 for Day 4, which is nice and manageable for TMQ. Everyone made a pick today, and we have one persistent zombie that consistently makes picks for several days after being eliminated from the SP. Despite there being so few players left, the picks are kind of all over the place and I wouldn't qualify any of them for bandwagon status.
The breakdown
Danielle Collins 8
Xinyu Wang 8
Belinda Bencic 3
Sofia Kenin 3
Liudmila Samsonova 3
Victoria Mboko 2
Ekaterina Alexandrova 1
Daria Kasatkina 1
Emma Navarro 1
Elena Rybakina 1

by G2gaynor Down to 24! Something tells me that we won't have 24 left at the end of today, though...
by ponchi101 And we won't. Mboko out too.
by JTContinental I think we are down to 19, with 1 person still waiting on Kasatkina.
by texasniteowl 169 to 19 by the end of R2...wild!
by Suliso I wonder how far would one get by taking the biggest favorite every day. Sabalenka day one and so on. Perhaps as far as today or longer.

Well, if by seeding... Things would have obviously ended with Gauff on Tuesday

If not by seeding but by perceived chance to win... Ehmmm... I still think it would make for a short participation in the SP

by JTContinental And now for the Day 4 edition of LAVISH LAWN or SALIVA-ISH YAWN. Did your losing pick remind TMQ of a lush English country garden or the snout of a tired carriage horse who has just had a drink of water? Find out below!
LAVISH LAWN
Sofia Kenin (3 victims) I think it served Kenin better when she would explode angrily every time she lost a point, then recollect herself for the next one like nothing ever happened. When I watch her play now, she's mostly just grimly pouting and on the edge of tears. Let it loose, girl--it won you a grand slam.
Victoria Mboko (1 victim) TMQ is not mad at this pick, even though it was a 50/50 prospect. Both Mboko and Baptiste are on the rise and might meet again soon much later in the tournament.
LAVISH LAWN or SALIVA-ISH YAWN
Xinyu Wang (8 victims) The third bandwagon crash in a row! Wang has been on the decline lately while Sonmez is enjoying a career high ranking. By default, this is the worst pick of Day 4. Dark scarlet highlighting is brought to you by ptmcmahon.
Less than 20 people left! You don't want to be on tomorrow's bandwagon.
by G2gaynor Whenever I am 1 of like 20 or 30 or it gets to the second week, I start to over think my pick and try to be too smart. I feel like picking Bucsa is that scenario again. Hopefully Bucsa doesn't disappoint, even though she's now 0-6 on break points in 3 games.
Also, I would be scared if I picked Svitolina today... another bandwagon crash?!?!?
by
JTContinental G2gaynor wrote: ↑Fri Jul 04, 2025 10:34 am

Let's just say that if she loses, this will not be awarded a
LAVISH LAWN
by JTContinental 19 players remain, and despite TMQ's very prescient warning, most have chosen to glibly jump on the bandwagon that has repeatedly malfunctioned during the first 4 days. Let's see what happens!
Elina Svitolina 10
Linda Noskova 4
Amanda Anisimova 3
Cristina Bucsa 1
Madison Keys 1
