I kind of thought Emma would kick Elena's butt, but I was clearly mistaken.

Paolini capitulates to the first decent player she faced, as expected (by me at least)

I saw the fourth set of Shelton vs Mannarino. Shelton was grabbing his shoulder and doubling over in pain every time he hit the ball. He tried to ignore his dad telling him to stop but in the end he couldn't continue.

Ann Li is through 7-5, 6-3 over Qualifier Priscilla Hon. It's her first time into the fourth round and she'll face Jessica Pegula.

Kind of an odd expectation. Beat her? Sure, anybody can beat Elena these days. But Emma kicking anybody's butt right now is hard to see. With her limited power, how could she?

She played pretty great in the first two rounds, whike Rybakina looked shaky.

Oh, but you are missing the grand scheme. I am a fan of Elena, so she is PRETENDING she can go far in the tournament, slowly building up my expectations, solely to then lose in a 3rd set super TB 19-21, having held 4 MP's with her serve.
To the lowest seed left.

That is why she played well today. Nothing more.

So much for Andreeva playing great and being a contender. Sad about Shelton.

Maybe some people were a bit inpatient with Townsend? It was just taking her some time to get to her best tennis?
