Cliff Drysdale is retiring, and congrats to him, but also thank goodness it's way past time. Commentary, and play-by-play as if it is still the 1980's and people don't have access to the Internet possibly on the same device they're watching the match on is so tiring to listen to.

But he was right in predicting that Pegula was not going to break Sabalenka that last game...

JPeg saves MP #2...

"Why come in to the net when it hasn't worked for you all match..." Drysdale re that ball Pegula put at Sablenka's feet...

Still as anyone would predict Sabalenka wins. Pegula gave her too many chances to win if that makes sense. I just didn't get a sense of urgency from Pegula especially at the business end of the third set.

Anyway Sabalenka wins 4-6 6-3 6-4

Seemed like a very clean match. Aryna: 43/27, Jessie 21/15 (W/UE). If Aryna can hit only 9 UE's per set, she is hard to beat.
Sorry for Jessie. I guess she and Zverev will have a lot to talk about once they retire. She is slowly climbing up the ranks of BEST PLAYER NEVER TO WIN A SLAM.
(I know, that is pretty much in Dinara's hands, but she reached #1. Consolation prize)

I know we've discussed this elsewhere here but there is something lacking in her game. I think she wants it as much as anyone on tour but when all is said and done there's no there there. I don't think that is something a coach can "teach" you.

She doesn't have the power. She and Emma will never get that.
I love Navarro's game. The FH is a beauty. The serve is textbook. But she can't put power on the shots and, by that age, that can't be taught.
Jessie is the same. A very polished game with no power. So you can't hit through the opponent.
And both of them are with Yonex, which are control racquets. You will only have power with Yonex if you bring it. Otherwise, forget it.

Meanwhile, Naomi-Amanda seems to be a monster match. Both served for a set, got broken, but won it in the TB. I don't know who to root for. Whoever loses is going to be really bummed out.

Worst final I can think of. Either Amanda loses two finals this year, or Aryna loses three.
Don't know who to root against.

A lot of respect to Amanda for pulling this one out. Sabalenka will be a favorite, but Anisimova winning wouldn't be super surprising.

Last time they met, it went Amanda's way. But yes, it was by a whisker.
I say Amanda in three again. The crowd will turn in her favor. That may help her with a couple of points, and that should be enough.
Unless Aryna storms to an early lead.

Last three times someone made the finals of Wimbledon and US Open, she lost both finals - Jabeur and Serena twice.

Though I see them as complete opposites. Pegula maximized her game and overachieved. Zverev, on the other hand...
