Daniil Medvedev after beating De Jong at the Australian Open

“Today was not easy. First match. Different tournament, a grand slam. Last year I lost almost everywhere first round except here actually"

by ti-amie It took 12m for Eala to break Parks in the first set. Parks hit an overhead return into the net.

by ponchi101 And then, she cleaned her clock.

by ti-amie Shang def RBA 6-4, 6-7(2).6-4, 6-0

And now Parks is up 3-1 in the second set...

by ti-amie Anisimova 6-3, 2-0 over Waltert

Tien in a fight vs Giron. He started out 0-3 and won the first set 7-6(2) and just dropped the second set 6-4.

Muchova took the first set 6-3 over Cristian.

by ti-amie After being bageled in the first set Alycia Parks comes back to win the match 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.

I just saw Ashkor's prediction in the other thread btw and I'm not touching it. ;)

by JTContinental I hope they arrest Ajla Tomljanovic post match for crimes against fashion

Prediction? Beating Eala is not a big deal for Parks is it?

by ponchi101 No. But when a player gets bageled and then comes back to win in two relatively easy sets, it looks good.
Eala's Miami (it was Miami, right?) seems like a long time ago.

by ashkor87 It was disgusting how biased the crowd was in the Eala Parks match... After the Medvedev experience I am rapidly losing respect for the AO crowd

by Jennede I haven't seen Iga play for a few years, and based on being at RLA and watching her last night she does not seem like a nearly world number 1 player. Her game seems to have regressed to hit the ball hard as early as I can, go for the angles and don't actually move much at all. Djokovic coming on after was a clinical contrast

by ponchi101 I think it is more that the other players are believing. They are walking off the court thinking "I had a chance", not "I got lucky I was not clobbered".
But we are talking a lot about the decline of a player that is still ranked #2. That is not trivial.

Her game has become pretty one dimensional with no back up plan if the shots aren't going in.

I think the highly biased crowd rattled Parks initially

A pleasant breeze can rattle Parks, she's a hothead.
