by Deuce I would have written it as...
N. Djokovic (1) vs. Citizens of Australia (26 Million)

by Liamvalid Not that I would have given him any chance if the title, but that’s not a draw Rafa would have been hoping for, a whole bunch of hard hitters in his quarter. Was hoping for someone more dangerous in Noles early section to test his current match fitness but it looks like he lucked out again

by meganfernandez Berrettini cannot escape a Djokovic quarter. It's reaching Ryan Harrison proportions of misfortune.

There are about 75,000 Australian citizens of Serbian descent. The right formula would be N. Djokovic + 75,000 citizens of Australia vs. all the other Citizens of Australia.

by ashkor87 now what happens to the draw?!

by ashkor87 i voted Zverev after knowing Djokovic was out....

According to the 2020 Official Grand Slam Rule Book (the latest edition I could find), GRAND SLAM® TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS, Article Z, Section 2.f.iii on page 23:
Any vacancy created by the withdrawal of a seed prior to the
release of the Order of Play for the first day of Main Draw shall
be filled as follows:
- If the withdrawal is among seeds 1 to 4, the 5th seed is
moved into the open position, the 5th position shall be filled
by the 17th seed, and the 17th position shall be filled by the
next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded.
So, if Djokovic's visa cancellation holds up and the rules are still the same, the #5 seed, Rublev, would move to Djokovic's position in the draw, the #17 seed, Monfils, would move to Rublev's position, and the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded, Bublik, would move to Monfils' position. Bublik's position would be filled by the eligible Lucky Loser.

I wouldn’t bank on that just yet, his lawyers are appealing and have persuaded the Aussie government not to deport him until then

Yeah I’ve just read that as there are more bottom half players still active in Sydney and Adelaide, then the top half of the draw (which includes Nole) will play Monday so you’re right. I did also read that his lawyers have asked for the appeal to be brought forward to Sunday, but doubt that will happen

That may be precisely why the Australian government took so long to decide to cancel his visa (the second time) - because the longer they took to pronounce their decision, the less time Djokovic and his lawyers would have to appeal before the tournament began.

In our polls we can re-cast our votes.
Yes, this time it seems like he won't be able to play. And the quote I am reading from the interior minister is that he is applying his discretionary power, so there really should not be much to talk about this time.

by ti-amie The ball is in Craig Tiley's court now. He can remove him from the draw or D/Q him no? I really have no idea. It would've been nice if Novax had simply packed up his tent and left but where's the drama in that?

by MJ2004 Back to the original poll, my heart says Rafa but my head says Medvedev.

by Liamvalid Ok I’ve changed from Novak to other. It’s been so wacky so far I’m gonna go with someone like Felix, Sinner, Alcaraz. I’ve not watched a single mens match so far this year so really can’t judge it

by ponchi101 By now, the sole reason I am picking Zverev is because repeating slams is so hard, and Daniil of course won the USO. But I would say he is the clear favorite now.
Of course, if there is any divine justice, Rafa really has to win this.

by dmforever So I'm curious who y'all would like to see win even if you don't think they have a good (or any) chance of actually winning.
My top 5 are Berrettini, Tsitsipas, Tiafoe, Karatsev, and Murray.

by ti-amie Y'all know who my fave is but I wouldn't mind it too much if a certain Frenchman somehow got through.

I’d like any of those 5 to win really. Would add Rafa to the list too

by Deuce Well, that was a disappointment - Caruso (playing in the top seed spot) lost quickly in straight sets.
You know what that means - the draw really opens up now for everyone in the top half of the draw :D .
