I read somewhere (don't remember where) that from the beginning of May 2021 to the end of the year, Ruud lost only three times to players ranked outside the top 15--in the third round of Roland Garros, the first round of Wimbledon and the second round of the U.S. Open--so yeah, he has been SP poison four times in a row with his withdrawal yesterday.

First time I've gotten to watch (on the scores) and Korda letting me down. Was looking at his results lately and thought "Oh I'm picking him too early" - should have taken that as a red flag!

6-6 in the 5th but it's past 3 AM here... I give up. Not like paying attention is helping much :)

LOL, ye of little Korda faith! Moutet actually served for the match at 5-4 in the fourth set- at which point Korda won the next three games. Both had love-40 leads in the fifth set- and neither broke. In the fifth set, Korda was 0 for 8 for break points, and Moutet was 0 for 4. It took a number of match points for Korda- IMO he kept playing too much percentage tennis, while Moutet was making the miracle shots. I watched the match on and off- so, I may be incorrect with the following assessment. Not sure if Moutet was perhaps injured or ill or whatever. But, he was constantly taking way too much time getting ready, and complaining the ump about the crowd (who were definitely obnoxious at times, but his whiney attitude wasn't helping to calm the crowd down whatsoever. I was expecting any minute for Moutet to put on his fright wig, and scream to the gods, "you spirits / That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full / Of direst cruelty”. :gorgeous: He spared us this at least, and ultimately, Korda's power game, if at times a bit too cautious, was enough to finally win this damneed thing. But, hey, it all only took 4 hours and 47 minutes. Certainly Stephan should be Pop And Fresh ready for his next match against Carreno Busta- who only took 4 hours and 10 minutes to win. (*BTW, my pick for today actually is Khachanov. But, since nothing could possibly go wrong with this- picked him too soon, too late- HEY, who knows?!?!- I just thought you'd all like to know more about Korda's fun day at the office.) :freaking:

Korda was definitely off his game today. He deliberately went for less because he was missing all his big shots. But Korda and Shapo gave us multiple heart attacks today, but I'm glad they're both still through. :)

Ha ha, yup! Although I think I appreciate it more this AM now that I have slept and forgotten a bit about the stress of the match. (Even watching the score update is stressful.)

....AND this is what is always so nutty about these pools. I mean, look- I know that Schwartzman has been sucking eggs in matches lately. But, I always am trying to think through this- trying to choose someone who both you expect to win, but not win too much more at a Slam. I sure figured that Schwartzman had enough pride at least to beat yet another Aussie scrub- O'Connell-Whatever.

Still, I already have picked Svitolina and now Mertens and survived- much more easily with Mertens that I had thought. THEN, of course, the risk always is that these players will find their top level games and do some damage. AS I said, nuttiness. :o

I tried to avoid the Karatsev bandwagon but instead rode the Sonego bandwagon right to the loser's lounge.

CRASH!!! :ax

The top two bandwagons crashed taking about 80% of the remaining contestants with them.
It looks like time to create an Updated Picks and Results Thread.
