29 gilded invitations have been sent out for our elite inner circle. Traditionally, this whittles down very quickly to single digits, so let's see if that trend continues. Our guests of honor are listed below, but if they are red, they are dead.

2 rude guests opted to decline our invitation--perhaps they are luxury-adverse--leaving us with 27. We have players choosing from both sides of 3 matches today: Gauff (1)/Mertens (1), Teichmann (3)/Stephens (1), and an overwhelming majority of you decided to select from the match I'm currently watching (currently just starting a tiebreak in the first set and featuring some of the worst serving I've ever seen) Sasnovich (19)/Trevisan (2).

For the record, TMQ is choosing Gauff, Stephens, and Trevisan in the showdowns

The breakdown

Aliaksandra Sasnovich 19
Jil Teichmann 3
Martina Trevisan 2
Coco Gauff 1
Elise Mertens 1
Sloane Stephens 1

Our first presentation is TMQ's ranking of yesterday's losing picks as DANK or STANK, and the pungent odors emanating from the corpses have made this show is a macabre feast for your olfactory senses.

Aryna Sabalenka (6 victims): STANK This was true suicide--at least half of you knew Sabalenka would lose even as you tried to will it to happen. After winning the first set, her game crumbled like an old STANK French cheese, the kind that has a greasy white sheen covering the moldy bits.

Alize Cornet (4 victims): A light DANK like a mild Brie, I'm not sure what the injury was here for Cornet. I think Zheng still would have won, but a fit Cornet would have made it competitive.

Elena Rybakina (4 victims) DANK This match was smooth with great drama like a sharp chevre, with a STANKy top note from Rybakina in the third super tiebreak.

Paula Badosa (2 victims): STANK This match was like the dried Velveeta you have to gaggingly scrape out of the office microwave so you don't give yourself botulism while eating lunch. Badosa lost the first set, quickly fell behind a break in the second set, and then literally disappeared (later revealed to be suffering from a leg "injury." TMQ designates this as "gross."

Martina Trevisan, French Open specialist, has insured that history will repeat itself once again. I think this is the 4th or 5th slam in a row where we had a massive plague on the first day of the updated thread.

Shocked by the split of Sasnovich to Trevisan pickers. Wonder if it's about how much less Trevisan's matches have been shown on the main channel.

Or maybe because of her struggling after her 1st RG run?

But she just won Rabat. Lots of data points to chose from. But I agree with Jazznu: they are separated by only 12 ranking positions (47-59, Sasnovich).
I would have never touched that match, but I would have lost anyway today. I would have picked Teichmann.

Sasnovich was not in the plan at all - I was in the position of having to pick Sasnovich to have a chance of beating the draw - maybe others were in the same position as well? (I would have taken Trevisan had I not used her already; I was counting on Kerber to come through and beat Trevisan - so it goes!)

I watched all of Trevisan's match against Saville (because Trevisan was my pick that day) and completely disagreed with JTContinental's assessment at the time, so surprised to see the prediction Trevisan would win today. I went with Sasnovich because I really had a good chance to beat the draw if I got that one right although I knew it would be close. As it was, Sasnovich served for both sets and missed a winner by less than an inch that would have ended the first-set tiebreak. She easily could have won, but Trevisan outplayed her slightly and deserved to send me out of the pool.

Still, it's a little tough to see someone criticizing that pick when three people took Teichman, who got double bageled after winning the first two games. That was a truly awful pick. Sasnovich had beaten better players than Trevisan in the first three rounds. Teichman, who had done virtually nothing at slams, beat the perpetually overrated Azarenka, who served for a straight-set win before falling apart, while her opponent is a former French Open finalist and grand slam champion who already had won 12 straight games in an earlier match.

I'll start by saying that Trevisan is one of my least favorite players on the tour because of her on court antics, in particular her stupid grunt that she does even when hitting drop shots that many times lasts after the ball is on the opponent's side of the net. It's bush league, IMO, so I like when she loses.

I base my predictions on matchups--Saville has had a good run during the clay court season and is a better player than Trevisan, so I thought she would win. Sasnovich was a 50/50 toss up in my mind, but I had the benefit there of already watching the first 12 games from that match, and while each one was progressively more terrible, Trevisan clearly had a fire in her that day that I didn't see in Sasnovich while she hit 60 mph serves into the net.

Also the second reminder this tournament that these threads are simply for entertainment purposes, and that entertainment is poking light fun at losing picks. if you aren't entertained, there are many other threads available for discussion.

PS--if you think that I'm going to rank that Teichmann pick as DANK, I most certainly am not.

Let's all take a breath of fresh air and put a stick of mint gum in our mouth before turning our nostrils toward the reek of death permeating the room from yesterday's bloodshed. TMQ has 0 DANKs to give today, which you could probably have guessed by my early morning predictions on these matches.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich (19 victims) STANK Sasnovich provides the top note of our charnel house bouquet, a scent heady with the aroma of 50 unforced errors in 2 sets of tennis. Keep in mind that she was 2 points from winning both of those sets, and you should agree that match had much STANK for us to draw upon.

Jil Teichmann (3 victims) STANK TMQ must admit to never even seeing so much as a picture of Jil Teichmann, let alone seen her play, yet I still knew she wasn't going to win this match.

Elise Mertens (1 victim) STANK Mertens has left a STANKy streak all over the world so far this year, and Gauff is a way better player than her at this stage of her career anyway.
