Matches today look a bit less interesting that yesterday's...can't seriously expect Pegula to trouble Swiatek, nor Kudermetova t beat Kasatkina...Rublev -Cilic could be the one to see..could be some high quality tennis...

I'm going with Swiatek, Kudermetova, Cilic and Rune. Anyone else with brave predictions?

My predictions for today:
I’ll take Majoli and Pierce over Davenport and M.J. Fernandez. I think the encouragement from the hometown crowd for the French women will be the difference.
The Escude/Mathieu vs. Leconte/Llodra match promises to be interesting - not only for Leconte’s lefty magic (if any remains), but also because it’s an all French matchup. I’ll take Escude/Mathieu.
I’m still wondering why these matches are repeatedly neglected in the polls!! :freaking:

In the Junior Girls draw, Victoria Mboko (Canada) is a fine talent - best of the current crop of Canadian girls in my opinion. I hope she does well today.
Annabelle Xu is another Canadian in the draw. I don’t see her as having as successful a future as Mboko. I hope she proves me wrong, though. She’s got a younger sister (Naomi) who really impressed me a few years ago when she was 12 years old... but when I saw her last year, when tournaments resumed after the COVID shutdown, I wasn’t very impressed with her level of progress.

Expressive Kasatkina takes the first set over poker-faced Kudermetova - 6-4.
Quite a boring and uninspired set of tennis from both players, honestly.
They should televise this one in black & white...

If Kudermetova doesn't take that MTO at 6-5 in the 2nd, hard to see it not going to a 3rd set. What an untimely break. Clearly it was necessary, she had the momentum in a big way and she interrupted it, but she's going to be thinking for a very long time about whether she could've toughed it out for another few minutes without that additional tape on her foot and gotten it looked at between sets.

Kasatkina having the chance to practice her supremely shaky serve during that MTO allowed her to regain confidence with that stroke and was truly a difference maker in getting through that final service game and giving her that big lead in the tiebreaker.

Kasatkina already won so, the other three:
Swiatek, Ruud, and I say Rublev. Cilic's form has to drop from that level he played against Medvedev. It was way too high for him to be able to repeat.

A rather comfortable match for Iga today (6-3, 6-2). Pegula didn't play bad and Swiatek made quite a few errors, but a true danger of losing was never there.

With win #33 Swiatek now owns the 13th longest win streak of the Open era. There have been exactly 10 streaks lasting longer than 40 matches.

That looked harder than the score tells. By now, I say Kasatkina cannot beat her (not enough power), Trevisan the same. Gauff has the power and the range.

So impressive. Iga must be working incredibly hard. Sometimes I think that gets overlooked because we don't see it. We pretty much only see the matches. She iust about to run the table on the clay season. I'd say the final is going to be boring, but it's like watching Federer mow over someone - the genius is the show.

I still give Kasatkina, Gauff or Trevisian a chance, but not a huge one. Looking to one of you guys for the technical matchup. I think you need to keep Iga deep and try not let her go from defense to offense very much, and also play great defense yourself. And have a great strategy. Who fit the bill? Maybe Gauff for her defense, but who's her coach for strategy, and will she be ready to win her first final? I don't think so.

If I had to guess now, I don't think she gets to 40 on grass.

Unlikely, I agree. Overtaking Venus at 35 is better than 50%, though.

Martina: 1 (74), Steffi 2 (66), Martina 3 (58), Court 4 (57), Evert 5 (55), Martina 6 (54), Graf 7 (46), 8 (45), Evert 9 (41), Martina 10 (41)

I wonder if Iga can break into the 40 match streak. But that stat almost works against her, as you can tell who are the people that are in the lost. That Seles, Hingis, both Williams and other great ones are not there says a lot.

Didn't she win a Wimby Jrs? She is not uncomfortable on grass.
