Well, so much for that "2 close sets" prediction...

By now, just look at the stats.
Iga breaks a streak of 6 years with a new winner at RG.
One of 5 players to win the first slam after reaching the #1 ranking.

Re: '22 Day 14 OoP & Discussion
Wertheim says Gauff will win a slam soon, and that appears to be conventional wisdom, but I am skeptical.
She moves incredibly well and competes incredibly well, but her forehand requires a lot of prep time, which she gets on clay but not on faster surfaces. Even on clay her forehand becomes a liability, and it figures to be a bigger problem at Wimbledon.
The last five slam runnerups have been Pavs, Pliskova, Fernandez, Collins and Gauff. With the possible exception of Fernandez, none of them is likely to ever win a slam. Gauff will, but she still has a lot of improvement needed before she gets there.

Iga thanked her dad, who was in the stands, and her sister, at home. Didn’t mention mom. Anyone know if she is in the picture?
