interesting to see that there are many Junior French Open champions still in the draw, some surprising ones even:
2007: Cornet
2008: Halep (the only one to go to win the ladies FO)
2013: Bencic
2014: kasatkina
2015: badosa
2018: Coco
2019: Leylah
I find it strange that, though there have been junior slam champions (Swiatek, Wimbledon, Ostapenko, Wimbledon) who won the Ladies at the French, Halep is the only one to have won both!
also interesting to note that it seems to take a junior champion 2-4 years to win a major at the senior level..sort of maturation period! some never do, of course.

Well... things are interesting early this morning...

Jeanjean took the 1st set easily over Pliskova, 6-2, and she leads 3-0 (2 breaks) in the 2nd.

And Juvan has come back from 2-5 in the 1st to even it at 5-5.

Pegula won the 1st set easily over Kalinina 6-1, and leads 4-0 in the 2nd. This, too, is a surprise - not that Pegula is winning, but that she's winning this easily over a player who has had a good past couple of months.

Pliskova has been playing so badly this year, this doesn't surprise me at all..

Pegula had match point at 6-1, 5-2. Lost the next 5 games. Her backhand is nowhere to be found. Kalilina took control.

I said Pegula beating Kalinina so easily was a surprise...
Well... Kalinina just came back from 0-4 down in the 2nd (after losing the first) - and Kalinina just won the 2nd 7-5.
Onto the 3rd.

Meanwhile Juvan is playing like she truly believes she can win this - she just took the 2nd set from Badosa 6-3.
Onto the 3rd there, too...

Pegula is recovering well in the third so far. Lost the opening game (making it 7 in a row lost) and then ran off 3. Kalilina making more errors. I think Pegula knew she is error-prone and that helped her reset. I’m glad she recovered, whether she wins or loses.

No-one wants to win this match, it seems...
Pegula has had 3 more match points at 5-4 in the 3rd... Kalinina has had break pints to tie it at 5...
Still going...

Pegula needed 10 match points to win her 1st round match, and needed 8 match points to win this one.
You could look at this as her having great difficulty winning clutch points... or as her having tremendous perseverance.

Kalilina has to go play doubles in a couple hours. Against the girls who train in my city, Indy - Emina Betkas and Tara Moore.

I'm going perseverance, esp if she was tired in the third. I don't know how many break points Kalinina had in the last game. At least 5 or 6. Kalinina was a totally different player point to point - a world-beater when she faced match point and shaky when she had BP. She should just start every set at 0-3. Credit to both of them. Pegula kept taking the punches until she finally got it done. I would have liked to see her play up into the court a little more, like Kalinina did. Well, a nail-biter to begin the day.

I'd pick Zidansk in the next round, though (and maybe literally will if I survive today).

Are we sure Jeanjean isn't Barbora Strycova's alter ego?

It's shaping up to be a Jeanjean - Parry Final.
You read it here first! From the same person who predicted a Leylah - Emma Final in the U.S. Open several rounds before it happened - although I admit I was joking then. Mostly.

Bublik goes for four underarm serves in three points - two lets, one out, one in the net (followed by an ace up the T). By the last one, even I knew it was coming.

Also this is Ostapenkian.
