Kerber calling for a medical, she seems likely done as she keeps grabbing her upper hip/lower back.

I'm totally on the wrong day, I didn't realize I was watching a replay. Sometimes live doesn't mean live I guess.Owendonovan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 2:17 am Kerber calling for a medical, she seems likely done as she keeps grabbing her upper hip/lower back.

Why is takeover "attempted"? I thought he already owns the qualified share of it.Owendonovan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 11:40 pmThe owner of this tournament is Larry Ellison who is worth $140 billion, which apparently isn't enough. Wholly unsurprising considering he's one of these people.
Larry Ellison, the billionaire co-founder and chairman of the software company Oracle and the biggest backer of Elon Musk’s attempted Twitter takeover, participated in a call shortly after the 2020 election that focused on strategies for contesting the legitimacy of the vote, according to court documents and a participant. The Nov. 14 call included Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.); Fox News host Sean Hannity; Jay Sekulow, an attorney for President Donald Trump; and James Bopp Jr., an attorney for True the Vote, a Texas-based nonprofit that has promoted disputed claims of widespread voter fraud.

Re: ATP M1000 WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open 3/6 - 3/17 2024
a meditation on sloow courts - is it possible that slow courts are a great equalizer - that is, even not-so-talented players can reach any ball, have the time to set up and hit any ball.. after all, what distinguishes great players like Djokovic and Federer is that they never seem hurried, they always have time to hit their shots .. such is their vision, reflexes, footwork.. here, at IW, even Nardi is able to keep up with Djokovic, and Djokovic anyway doesnt have the brute power like Nadal has, to push someone off the court..
so upsets like this are to be expected?

It could also be that Nardi (20) is ranked way below his actual ability and Djokovic is finally starting to show some cracks.
If slower courts were such an equalizer anyone could upset the former big 3 on clay and it certainly was not true.

It's an interesting thought... but it also might overestimate how slow these courts really are. They are slow for hard. But I'm not sure they're clay-slow.ashkor87 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 9:47 am a meditation on sloow courts - is it possible that slow courts are a great equalizer - that is, even not-so-talented players can reach any ball, have the time to set up and hit any ball.. after all, what distinguishes great players like Djokovic and Federer is that they never seem hurried, they always have time to hit their shots .. such is their vision, reflexes, footwork.. here, at IW, even Nardi is able to keep up with Djokovic, and Djokovic anyway doesnt have the brute power like Nadal has, to push someone off the court..

I think Nardi played great and Djokovic was slightly below his level. Sometimes people lose tennis matches. That's all, IMO. Djokovic made two sloppy errors in the last game, when Nardi was clearly nervous. Nardi opened the game with a double fault, and on the second point, he chose to hit a rally ball as a slice forehand, off-balance, rather than step in and drive it, like normal. Djokovic returned that very easy ball into the net, then missed the next ball wide. He wasn't as sharp as usual.

true, but clay is anyway different - the movement, the balance, the spin.. the IW and Miami hard courts are the slowest hard courts, not the slowest courts per se.
I had posted these earlier, but anyway, he speeds of different courts were rated as follows (not all that recent, I agree)
Shanghai 42.9
Turin 42.1
AO 42
Paris (Cergy) 37.5
Canadian (not sure Toronto or Montreal?) 36.3
USO 35.4
Cinci 33.6
Miami 30.3
IW 27.4
Monte Carlo 24.9
Rome 22
Roland Garros 21
Madrid 20.9
that accords reasonably well with what our eyes tell us.

Madrid is slower than MC? Usually players who don't like clay that much do better there than elsewhere.

Exactly. Sabalenka is a two time (?) champ. Zverev has won it. And it was Rafa's least successful big clay tourney.

They're into the third set after Sabalenka took the second set, also by 6-3.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:46 pm Navarro takes the first set from Sabalenka 6-3, one break.
