4-1 Navarro in the third. Can Sabalenka come back again?
Regardless of whether she does her form is nowhere near AO. Will not win this tournament I think.

No choke from Navarro and out goes Sabalenka.

I'm shocked Emma beat her. Emma doesn't have a big weapon. Just is very good athletically and evidently played well strategically.
Askhor, did you think this surface should favor Sabalenka overall?

There was a point two or three before this that was amazing by both women.

There were some comments a few years ago about Navarro being on tour solely because her dad is a millionaire that owns the Charleston tournament.
Then I just went to the WTA site and found our she is ranked #23. So it is not just daddy's money.
And BTW, she looks very pretty. Some marketing potential there.

Daddy's money only gets you so far, and not as far as the top 20. Probably not event top 100. It might even be a hindrance at some point, if you don't care about the money. Very impressive, what she has done the last couple of years. She is tied with Iga for # of match wins ins 2024.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:27 pm There were some comments a few years ago about Navarro being on tour solely because her dad is a millionaire that owns the Charleston tournament.

I don't think so, and I don't know how she got a set of Sabalenka, unless Sab played terribly. Emma did one better than Stearns.Suliso wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:17 pmDoes Peyton Stearns have big weapons?meganfernandez wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:12 pmI'm shocked Emma beat her. Navarro played with MUCH more initiative today- more aggression, more winners from solid ground strokes. (I watched from the end of the first set on.) Obviously, Sabalenka's ill-timed errors helped. But, 'twas an excellent job from Emma. (AND, no, Navarro and Stearns ain't gonna match Sabalenka for power, shot after shot. But- Sabalenka's winners also- you know- have to go in.)

I think it's at least 50% Sabalenka in both cases. As for Stearns she should have beaten Aryna (had multiple match points), but choked at the last moment.

AND- watched most of the third set- Monfils just got worn out. (SHOCKING, I know).

I can definitely confirm that Stearns choked. For once in her career- Sabalenka played don't-hit-an-error to save the match points.

There was a time when the only time I saw Navarro as a WC in Charleston. It seemed to me that she was doing a nepo baby thing. I was wrong. She was playing college tennis and has been playing steadily over the last 18 months or so hence her ranking. She took that match from Sabalenka today and she deserves props for that.
She hasn't always worn the pony tail. It suits her.

Same on all of it. I'm still not 100% sold on her game. It lacks teeth and dimension to me. But she's strong mentally, has great movement, and is good enough in everything else. Still a lot of room for improvement.ti-amie wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 9:05 pm There was a time when the only time I saw Navarro as a WC in Charleston. LOL, should have been 0 & 0. Coco had been up 6-0, 2-0- 30-0. Two double faults. Wins the next point. Double faults- and after at some point another double fault and an error- 2-1. Mertens holds- Coco shakily holds....and then Mertens went back to absolute crap play, with solid play from Coco. 0 & 2.
