Night. If they close the roof, the famous "faster" conditions. And Herbert is good at the net.

I'm not sure that closing the roof over the clay court creates faster conditions. Might be the opposite. If it is cold and humid ...

I have always believed that these "roof is closed, the conditions are different" is utter BS. But that is what the players and commentators say, so they should know more than I (and way more). But I don't think it creates an iota of difference.

Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
Conditions are different in a sense that weather elements are taken out. No wind, no direct sun in the eyes. It is easier to play precision tennis, aiming closer to the lines. IDK about humidity. If they have really strong AC system, then it can be reduced, but I'm not sure about this.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2024 12:13 pmI have always believed that these "roof is closed, the conditions are different" is utter BS. Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
Pablo Carreno Busta is back on court after a year and a half, basically, dealing with an elbow injury that set in shortly after he won Canada in 2022 and finished the year No. 11. He thought he was ready to come back in October 2023, but he played a couple Challengers and hurt a lot, and decided to have surgery. He's hoping he's ready now and will get a lot of info from his match with Navone today. Wishing him well. This is a good interview with him - https://www.atptour.com/en/news/carreno ... s%20coming.

He was playing so well when he won Canada. Hen was looking not like a slam champion, but certainly top 10 material.
I don't expect him to do well; coming back on a clay event, best of 5, must be tough. And his best surface is hards, so this will be tricky.
Still, wish him well.

Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
Stearns had 5 MPs in the second set and lost it 10-8 in the tiebreak. Squeaked out the match in a third-set breaker, 10-6. At 7-4, she appeared to think she had won the match (as I did). I hate the 10-point super tiebreak. Just adds confusion. Hardly any substance.

After you have been playing for 3 hours, giving both players a little extra margin of error may not be bad.

Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
Or just makes them play longer when they're already tired, giving them a few more points to get injured. That can go either way. Stearns didn't want more margin for error at 7-4.
It's arbitrary and doesn't accomplish what it's intended to, and occasionally causes confusion. I can't think of another sport whose athletes don't know when the competition has concluded (other than a contested play or officiating issue). It's bizarre, and for what? Nothing.

Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
I remember that last season one NFL player did not know the game was over after he scored the winning TD.
The "John Isner" effect. Because he could not finish matches, all slams needed ti implement these rules but decided not to go the USO way.

You mean the Super bowl?
Although I don't think that was people being tired... for some reason some players act like understanding different playoff overtime rules is rocket science. The entire 49ers team didn't know the rules as well it seemed.

Re: 'RG 24 Day 3 Order of Play & Discussion
Sorry Megan I don't agree here, especially in a women's match.
It's been well documented how "tight" matches can be with number of points won.
This avoids some of the capriciousness by adding more points to it - while still being less than a "win by 2 games" scoreset.
I am all for trying to avoid some of the randomness. I am sure there are stats available somewhere of TB vs super TB.
If I have played for hours I don't want it (more) subject to whimsy
