Re: '24 RG Day 12 Order of Play & Discussion
Gauff was not particularly competitive and I'll be surprised if Paolini or Andreeva can do better. Once we move to grass and hard courts will be a different ball game.

Swiatek vs Gauff now 11:1. Do we think it will end similar to Federer vs Roddick (21-3) and Serena vs Sharapova (20-2)?

Most likely, barring some major injury or life crisis... I think Gauff will get her a few times on hard, maybe once on clay. She's a great competitor and will continue to improve. Brad is a great coach for her.

Gauff would have won the tournament if Osaka had beaten Swiatek.
No one is ever beating Swiatek at Roland Garros in the foreseeable future unless she is injured.

I was thinking about Osaka's match point during Iga's semifinal. How Gauff wishes Osaka had won it.
I think Paolini would have had a good chance against Gauff in the final, though. I think she'll be competitive with Iga. She has a great attitude.

Happy for your Paolini fans! What a surprise to see this darkhorse make a final! In the grand tradition of Schiavone and Errani. She's fun to watch. What a great attitude. Great performance to come back after a huge emotional win over Rybakina and be this engaged.

Agree about Paolini's attitude.
Also think Iga may take her lightly. She takes Gauff seriously and comes focused when they play. Swiatek will win, and maybe in a rout, but not necessarily.

I think Gauff would have handled her—she’s 2-0 in their h2h and was playing the 2nd best level of tennis in the women’s tournament.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:27 pmI was thinking about Osaka's match point during Iga's semifinal. How Gauff wishes Osaka had won it.

The conversation around Coco as a second tier competitor that goes on here is weird to me.

I missed the Paolini/Andreeva match but I’m surprised by the scoreline—was Mirra nervous or was Jasmine just dialed in?

Re: '24 RG Day 12 Order of Play & Discussion
.....AND Chicago, yet again, claims another tennis great match achiever.
Little Fat Face, AKA Paolini, played one of the three women's tennis tournaments in 2021. Granted, she lost to Cornet in the 2nd round 7-6, 6-4 after beating Doi in the 1st round....
Nevertheless, these past few years, it has been incredible to see these women and men players very close up, as they move on to great results.

Re: '24 RG Day 12 Order of Play & Discussion
I think Coco is a tier below Swiatek in quality, and Sabalenka has more weapons. As a competitor, Coco is outstanding but I think still a hair below Iga, who is more dialed in mentally. Iga radiates ferocious belief and her results back it up.JTContinental wrote:I think Gauff would have handled her—she’s 2-0 in their h2h and was playing the 2nd best level of tennis in the women’s tournament.meganfernandez wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 4:27 pmI was thinking about Osaka's match point during Iga's semifinal. I didn’t say Coco wouldn’t win but I don’t think it would be easy or a gimme. i dont think that is an insult to Coco or unfair. Paolini is playing super well and is full of confidence. I think she would have gone toe to toe with Gauff.

Re: '24 RG Day 12 Order of Play & Discussion
I'm really happy for Little Jasmine. No one gave her the proverbial snow ball's chance in h*ll and here she is in the Final.
I'm going to say this though. Iga may be a bit much for her on this surface but the WTA cannot afford another 40m match. That match has already added fuel to the fire about not featuring WTA matches at night session(s) in my opinion. If there's a repeat of that in this Final WTA night sessions will be few and far between. No one is going to pay top dollar to watch a match like that at a Slam.
And please don't compare Jasmine to Errani, who is her doubles partner by the way. Seeing Errani play singles live should be used to make spies talk. Horrific.
