Suliso wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 8:17 am There have been only 6 men who have held #1 ranking for every week of at least one calendar year: Connors, Lendl, Sampras, Hewitt, Federer and Djokovic. McEnroy and Nadal are notably absent from this list.

For women there have been 6 as well - Evert, Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Serena and Barty. Swiatek could join this list this year if Sabalenka falters and she comes back to play and does better at YEC. I don't think that will happen, though.
You were right. Aryna overtook Iga in the rankings, race, and is in a good position to end the year as #1.
Actually, in ranking as well. Due to very odd WTA rule about mandatory WTA500 participation. Saba is officially #1 since today.

Apparently the venue of the YEC is not the one they used for 6 Kings..but I am boycotting it anyway so I don't even know why I care..! The men's WTF will go the same way as 6 Kings, the court is fast, Sinner will win

Why are you boycotting a tournament in Turin?

The WTA's YEC is in S. Arabia. As Suliso says, the ATP is in Turin. You can watch.

Won't be surprised if Djokovic pulls out of the WTF in Turin...not playing Bercy is a sign he doesn't care too much about anything except majors, DC and Olympics..DeM will probably make it then..

Agree. I don't think he cares about anything but slams now.
But coming into a slam, even if it is his most successful, with no tournament practice is silly. You don't get in shape for 3 our of 5 by hitting with your challenger level hitting partner. Especially a guy that relies on his perfect timing so much.

According to the WTA site, Swiatek will need to defend her YEC title in order to finish the year at #1.

This might not be enough. Sabalenka was in the semis last year (with 2-1 in RR stage). She needs to do worse than that in order for Swiatek to overtake her.

Danielle Collins back in the top 10 after a precipitous drop from 10 to 17 for Haddad Maia

Sofia Kenin is back in the top 100 after her finals run in Tokyo, moving up 67 spots to 88.

Dominic Thiem on a relief fund for lower-ranked players during COVID: "None of the lower-ranked players have to fight for their lives. I've seen players on the ITF-Tour who don't commit to the sport 100 %. Many of them are quite unprofessional. I don't see, why I should give them money."
