Jeanjean really frustrated. After Maria wins the match, Jeanjean throws away her racket, hardly shakes hands with Maria and angrily leaves the court. She returns a couple of minutes later, but what a terrible loser...
At least she didn't pretend to pee on her runner up trophy...I hope.

It is a bit silly to praise Madison for being the first player in many years to beat #1 and #2 on the way to the title..many years, Sabalenka and Serena didn't achieve that 'feat' because they WERE the #1 or #2 player! I am more impressed by Madison winning the AO after winning one of the preamble tournaments..very rare. Also, a few years ago, in one of the US tournaments before the uso, she beat the reigning australian, french and wimbledon champions one after the other!

Huh?!
WTA 250 events are only allowed 1 top 10 player, and Pegula had already signed up for the tournament.

but why? how is that good for the game? is the WTA trying to promote the game or destroy it?

That is a question beyond the bonds of the known universe.

As mentioned elsewhere on the internet: "In practice, the set-up is not popular, and leaves 250 tournaments lacking in star power. It's rare to find a sports league with rules preventing its most popular players from participating in events, but the WTA apparently prioritizes a balanced schedule that much."

I'd never heard of this rule and apart from the perceived balance the WTA is after, it just seems stupid. Like, really, really stupid. In other words, I agree with you, ashkor, that it seems destructive ;)

the one thing I haven't heard in this discussion (on Twitter) is why the rule was created in the first place. There has to be a reason, something they were trying to achieve or avoid, and we need to know what it was before condemning it.

And one day to the Survivor Pool. They never think about us.

eventually they are going to add Friday and Saturday, reasoning that they should give fans the whole weekend and wonder why they didn't do it in the first place. There should be something for fans to do that whole weekend, right? I assume they will finish qualifying on Thurs or Fri so they can complete the draw? Why not start some doubles on the weekend and make that free?
