So glad the media isn't putting their usual pressure on a mere kid only to tear him to tiny bits later when things aren't going well for him, he "lets his country down," or at some other whim of their convenience.

I hope João has the humility to see how absolutely absurd this is or the sense of humor to come onto court dressed as Jesus.

Gee, I thought he was a tennis player that won a 250 tournament this week.
How fool of me.
I wonder if they will tear down the Christ of Corcovado statue and put his there, instead.

Serious here. I wonder if they even came close to this kind of hyperbole when BHM won those grass court tournaments a few years back.

Yikes, seems like it was one of her stalkers she recognized. Stalking is one of the creepier, most unsettling things people do.

If the top players want to see a change to the schedule they need to stop playing tournaments that they don't want to play.

There are penalties for missing these tournaments, but those penalties are so small - some bonuses, and ranking points - that it wouldn't significantly affect the top players. The ATP boycotted Wimbledon in 1973, and it changed the way the sport was governed.

If I'm an Iga, Aryna, Coco etc. Frankly, I have enough money and will miss what I want when I want with the ever present "injury" excuse.

Because Andreeva did not play the Aussie? Bencic did not play the Aussie?
If the quick change in surfaces is to blame, it would imply that the players that did not play the Aussie would be at an advantage. But these players also went to Australia, also went to the other tournaments. Why were they able to switch for Doha and Dubai?
It is as if the drivers in F1 would say "Hey, I was not able to get ready for Monte Carlo because I did well in Australia".
Always finding an excuse.

And yes, by now, Iga has so much money she could play wherever she wanted. Serena did it, Pete skipped the Aussie one year, it can be done.
