Gene Mayer was 7 times past 3rd round at slams: 3 R16 + 4 QF. Fritz is good piece ahead: 1 RU, 1 Semi, 4 QF, 2 R16. And he has a lot of a time left to improve on that. Also it does not seem that Gene was above #4 at any point.

Sinner with this win upgrades his Grand Slam status: moving from the tier of "semifinalists" (players who reached semis in all slams) to the next tier of players who reached finals at all slams (he is the 6th player here, joining Courier, Edberg, Lendl, Murray, Rosewall). The ultimate tier that will remain for him - career slam holders.
Alcaraz is in the 4th tier - reached at least QF at all slams (30 players overall). He'll need to do better in Australia to improve on this.

Still about Fritz: I gather he can talk to Zverev, Dimitrov, Kei, Raonic and a few others.
I agree with what you say, Suliso. Maybe he can get lucky, as indeed Krajicek did. But it will be luck, not his tennis. He is just one notch below the two top guys.
About Novak. Well, my prediction was way off. I thought he would be competitive. But, I said this years ago: it was not the new guys. It was age. Your legs simply can't carry you anymore as swiftly as before.

And even then it took not just any young guy, but someone rather close to himself five years ago.

At least Fritz won a set.
