If the stands were full, that is all that matters.
And I do mean it.

Ashe was sold out. They didn't sell tickets to Louis, it was general admission, and it was pretty full. For the regular doubles teams that can participate, it's an improvement - bigger crowds, much more money on the line, not as taxing on the body, good prep for the doubles draw.

Yep. I am playing mixed doubles and the smart play is to go cross court against NOVAK DJOKOVIC.
Somebody did not read the instructions.

Post-Match Thread
Swiatek and Ruud were down 4-8 in the tiebreak. They will play Collins and Harrison or Errani and Vavassori in the final

Sara Errani & Andrea Vavassori d. Danielle Collins & Christian Harrison 4-2 4-2 at the U.S. Open

The defending champions will face Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud in the final.

They were actual ninjas at the net today.

On a mission.

I am hoping that a real doubles team, such as Errani and Vavassori, wins this "tournament" so that the doubles players get a higher percentage of the entrances.

The enormous Arthur Ashe Stadium is mostly full already for the #USOpen mixed doubles, before any players have yet taken court.

Safe to say the US Open is going to be running this concept back in 2026; question is how many of the other Slams copy them, and how immediately.

Real slams: take the rankings, admit top players, supplement with wild cards and qualifiers
This "slam": take the rankings, throw them out, admit only wild cards regardless even if no demonstrated ability, begrudgingly accept the team that won last year and hope they don't win

How can we take it seriously as a grand slam event when they’re interviewing players between sets 🤷‍♀️

Ruud looked like he may have injured himself on that last play. But is OK.

That can't happen. A top player injures themselves during this and nobody will play.
