Now Andreeva says her team decided that they didnt need to go to Japan, there was no issue with visas etc.. just a mistake they made, she admits.

There you go. As I said, it is not as if Japan is some third world country.
About Coco. It has to be surprising that she hits 17 DF's, against a player of Pegula's caliber, and she still loses in three. That is how good the rest of her game is.
I keep asking: why can't that be fixed by her coaches? Zverev fixed it. Sabalenka fixed. Why can't this team fix it?
Just spend several matches hitting only second serves.

That's just it: "Zverev fixed it. Sabalenka fixed it," not their coaches, not their teams. I agree with hitting only second serves; she needs practice at that.

I heard Gavin saying (on Roddick's podcast) that the main thing he is working with Coco on is a reliable spun serve she can trust.

Sabalenka made it clear that her coach told her it was bad mechanics; he had her switch her grip and motion. So a little credit to the team is not undue.

Venus has accepted a wild card in Auckland--it will be her 33rd season on the tour.

She is also the oldest player to currently have a ranking on tour by 5 years.

The long term absence of dominant players in WTA is confirmed by the fact that in 10 last editions of ATP YEC there were 5 (50%) cases when the winner went undefeated. In the 10 last editions of WTA YEC only 3 times the winner went undefeated - Svitolina, Swiatek and Rybakina. There were also 2 occasions when the winner lost 2 (two!!) matches in the Round Robin stage - Radwanska and Cibulkova. If I'm not mistaken this never happened on ATP side.

Statistically, 5/10 vs 3/10 isn't really a big enough sample to be damning, although the second point is interesting.
