saw the highlights - as before, Pegula just doesnt have the weapons to hit through a slow court, Paolini does. Simple as that.

A bit extreme. Ok, not very patriotic but he has been a good ambassador for the sport and for Italy, doping allegations and all.

His place will be taken by Lorenzo Sonego in the Italian team. All the best to Lore in his recovery and to his family!

Alcaraz is advocating Davis Cup to be held every two years.. how will that help? unless it is spread over 2 years..?

If they switch to 2-year cycle, I hope that they bring back home/away ties with reverse singles and bo5 format.

Re: Country Cups (Davis Cup, Fed/BJK Cup)
Let it die.
Listen, I get it. It has a lot of tradition. There have been glorious ties. For some players, their greatest moments were in a DC match.
But you can see that the players no longer care about it. Can you imagine any player saying he will not play one of the slams because of fatigue or other obligations? (I know, Sampras did not play the Aussie in 1999 because he was exhausted from his run in 1998 to keep his #1 ranking). Plus, you see exactly this. Top players saying the format has to be changed, that it should be played every two years, etc.
If the players are not interested, how can you expect us fans to be interested?
And yes. Home and away. I simply can't see how anybody in Germany (for example) can be interested in a tie between France and Argentina. It would be like playing the NBA finals in a neutral city.

All of this is true for now. But maybe "returning to roots" would bring back the lost interest - at least partially.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 15, 2025 3:38 pm Let it die.

Re: Country Cups (Davis Cup, Fed/BJK Cup)
now that Alcaraz has also pulled out (probably) - we wont be lamenting the absence of Sinner.. Czechia will probably best Spain - then what? Italy is still very strong.
The home and away format meant a lot - I got to see some great players in my home town in India because of Davis Cup.. yes, we can see them on TV anywhere, but it is special to be able to watch them practice, and even interact with kids (like me at the time)..

Yes. No way Alcaraz was going to remain in this after that loss, and that probable thigh injury.
And with the Aussie being the one slam missing to complete the career grand slam, there is no way he plays anything until next year. Unless somebody offers him enough Riyals...

Totally predictable..finals is between Germany and Italy. It may come down to the doubles, which would be great for the game
