Re: Sports Random, Random
We sometimes complain that some players dominate tennis for too long.
In chess Garry Kasparov had the highest rating (not equal to being World Champion!) from 1984 till his retirement in 2005 (21 years). Magnus Carlsen, the current best player, has been #1 continuously since July 2011 (14 years).
Among women Judit Polgar was #1 continuously from 1989 till her retirement in 2014 (25 years).

Go Indiana! Beat Bama! Anyone else following the College Football Playoffs, or is that in a dedicated thread?
I went to Indiana... absolutely in love with Fernando Mendoza, whose mom played tennis for Miami, incidentally. I keep waiting for a journalist to ask about his tennis game. The sports information director at Indiana plays a lot of tennis - I told him to get the scoop.

As a Notre Dame fan I'm boycotting the playoffs in solidarity!
Although I find I'm having less and less interest in college football every year in general. The transfers, conference changes, etc... I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I just hope the March Madness tournament doesn't lose it's special feeling for me too... although it's probably headed that way.

I like Notre Dame a lot, too. I thought they should have gotten in over Miami since the committee had ranked HD over Miami all along. Of course, Miami has saved face.ptmcmahon wrote: ↑Thu Jan 01, 2026 5:17 pm As a Notre Dame fan I'm boycotting the playoffs in solidarity!

I wish IU and Notre Dame would play every year now.

I am quite sure that that pilar of integrity, that organization that is completely uncorruptible, FIFA, will surely joint a boycott of the world cup. Their integrity and morals are impeccable.
