Which is kind of crazy, but the first step is believing.
But it doesn't work against Vika! Why?
Includes matches on clay, where Vika has no great track record, and Osta does..

Vika also goes for broke so consistently outhitting her is hard.

after-the- fact wisdom suggests: Ostapenko is good at punishing spun second serves, of the Swiatek kind, but Vika does not give her those - Vika is herself very good at punishing weak second serves, which Ostapenko does give her enough of. and so on.. but, as I said, all this is rationalization.

I think this is accurate. And as Vika can outpace Ostapenko and that rattles her into easy mistakes.

Trying to figure out a "why" with Ostapenko is a fools errand :)

Great comeback in the rankings for Hubert Hurkacz this week. Up 27 spots to #56 in the live rankings and with a chance of more if Iga beats Coco or they win mixed doubles.

Gauff has now won the last 8 sets against Swiatek.. the last time Swiatek beat her was in June 24! Has Coco become Iga's kryptonite now, along with Ostapenko?!

It is indeed interesting. Again, Iga's mantle of invincibility is gone; players go out there believing. But one thing that puzzles me: they both have that extreme FH grip, and I believe that it lands right into Coco's sweetspot with more frequency than in Iga's, because Iga puts more spin.

Belinda Bencic goes 5-0 (singles) in United Cup and returns to the top 10. Not even sure when was the last time she was ranked this high. Only R4 to defend at AO.

I would put Mboko at 70% probability of winning a major sooner or later...she is almost there now. I would say she has a chance even at this AO.
