Think it's easier to pick losers than winners? We'll see about that.

2026 Australian Open YCWJ - Scoreboard and Lounge

Here's the place to talk about the players who you thought couldn't survive the Australian heat.

I will be adding a pick tracker and scoreboard after the first round. I won't be able to do so before Monday in the US.

A pick tracker has been posted. Please check that I took your picks down correctly and let me know if something is wrong. Results from the first two days have also been added in.

Round 1 was unkind to us loser-pickers. Ktothem1 leads with 16 followed by 8 players with 13. I haven't checked the data, but I would wager that 13 is the lowest first round second-place score ever. No one lost fewer than two picks.

A scoreboard has been added to the same spreadsheet the pick tracker resides in:

I started 5 for 5 and wound up 5 for 8!

I feel like we've probably done worse than 13 for second place score... probably? :)

Round 2 saw many more losses than Round 1. Ktothem1 is still in first after losing one pick. Ponchi101 and Ptmcmahon rose above the others who scored 13 in the first round by not losing any picks in the second, and they're now tied for second, 4 points behind ktothem1.

You can track your picks and see the scoreboard in this spreadsheet.

In round 3, it was more of the same for ponchi101 and ptmcmahon. Both surpassed ktothem1 and ponchi is now in the lead, with ptmcmahon three points back. Ponchi is the only contestant to score in double digits for the third round. On the other end, weefunk is the first to run out of picks, but shmrck14 is still 3 points behind her, so the wooden spoon for the contest is still in play.

You think Mboko is going to take out Sabalenka, and Paul take out Alcaraz?

Maybe 2 rounds from now...(or is that what you meant by "next" round .. after the one just starting :) )

My matches all feel about between 40 and 60% chances. I wouldn't be surprised with any combo of wins/losses.

I spoke too soon. My natural response to being in first at any contest is disbelief, so I really did not see the next matches.
But yes, as you say. After this round, I am toast.

Round 4 saw ponchi101 open up a sizeable lead of 9 points. But as he mentioned, it's tough sledding as he'll need a loss in the quarterfinals from one of the #1 seeds to earn any more points. Dave g has more picks remaining at this point than anyone else, though two of his picks will play each other in the quarterfinals.

At the other end, shmrck14 clinched the wooden spoon for the contest after their last pick won.

My hardest part will be hoping Sinner loses in semis (assuming he beats Shelton.)

But I am going to need Musetti to defeat Djokovic to truely advance more than a couple of points. I am not very optomistic about that happening.

45 points is like more than I got the whole last year.

Interestingly enough, after last night the rest of the women's tournament is completely inconsequential for the outcome of this contest.

Well. It had been a while since I led in any contest at any time. This year, I let for one week at Amits and now this. So, should be happy.
But, NOOOOOO!, Cobolli and Samsonova...
