Re: Talk about the NFL
The Eagles fired Pederson!
Ok, they were terrible this year, but the guy won you a SB three years ago.
I wonder who will want that job, with that messy QB situation.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Nobody wants the Eagles job. Likely the worst among the openings, the QB situation is just one of many, many problems that will make it undesirable.
Gus Bradley hired as Las Vegas DC. The Raiders posted a photo of Ken Whisenhunt in the announcement.
Dan Quinn hired as the new Cowboys DC.
Brian Schottenheimer fired as Seattle OC.
Chuck Pagano is retiring, so the Bears will be searching for a new DC.
And not coaching news, but the Texans have themselves a problem with a capital P. They hired this GM. They apparently skipped a few steps and Deshaun isn't on board with the hire. We knew that a couple of weeks ago. But today, coming out of the Witness Protection Program, Andre Johnson posted to Twitter to back Deshaun being unhappy, to say that he's in the right. Texans have been mismanaging the team for awhile and it dates back to Jack Easterby, an executive with the team who has too much influence it seems. The new GM hire appears to be an extension of this guy's continued influence. So, most are thinking, wow Andre really speaking out here, and thanks for the insight and it is very, very rare for him to speak out like this, he was a consummate professional. Is this him just trying to support Deshaun? Nope. In the replies are a good number of former Texans co-signing completely on what Andre is saying. This was likely well known in Houston, but not nationally, it's turning into a story. With Deshaun potentially about to force a trade if things remain as they are, definitely a team to watch for news.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Totally. Deshaun's talent is being wasted big time in Houston. And if they lose him, the simply become the Jets-South.
It is almost impossible to believe that a QB that won the yardage title plays for a 4-12 team. And they need to get a replacement for Hopkins; that has got to be one of the worst trades in NFL history.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Jameis Winston led the league in that stat last year for the 7-9 Buccaneers, and I don't think (but haven't checked) that it's all that uncommon for the passing yards leader to be on a bad team. I think passing TDs is a better indicator of how good your team is. Having a lot of passing yards is more an indicator that your offense isn't balanced or your defense stinks.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 2:56 pm Totally. Random fun statistic I saw and can't recall where so I apologize for lack of attribution.
Baker Mayfield is the oldest QB remaining in the AFC but would be the youngest in the NFC.

Re: Talk about the NFL
As far as a gauge for QB's, I go for TDs/INT ratio. Winston was a throwing machine (still is) but we know any throw could end in anybody's hands.
But I did not know those stats.
I still say Deshaun is one of the top 5 QB's on the league. But you point about an unbalanced team is spot on for Houston. They are not bad in offense, but their defense is non-existent.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Being a bad team means usually playing from behind and having to pass more too.
It's funny how it worked out with all young QBs in the AFC (including three picked in the same first round) and then almost a complete old guard in the NFC.Fastbackss wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 4:47 pm Random fun statistic I saw and can't recall where so I apologize for lack of attribution.

Living where Saleh grew up - I am bummed he didn't get chosen by the Lions...but happy for him and the Jets.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Falcons hired the Titans OC. Daboll is now the lead candidate for the Chargers' position. Texans reportedly didn't request an interview with him though Deshaun has been very public about wanting him to at least be seriously considered.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Oh well. Rams defense looking seriously undercooked today. #1 defense vs. #1 offense has been won by the defensive team 3 out of 4 times in the last like 20 years or so. This wasn't even close. Probably not paying Aaron Donald enough if this is what the Rams look like when he's playing injured.

Re: Talk about the NFL
Indeed. For next year, Cam Akers may be a good third RB to pick in FF. But without Donals and Kupp they really looked unable to get anything going.
