Would you mind clarifying this? There were two Martina's who won multiple slams, and I can't, at a glance. tell which Martina belongs to which streak.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 2:26 pmMartina: 1 (74), Steffi 2 (66), Martina 3 (58), Court 4 (57), Evert 5 (55), Martina 6 (54), Graf 7 (46), 8 (45), Evert 9 (41), Martina 10 (41)
I wonder if Iga can break into the 40 match streak. But that stat almost works against her, as you can tell who are the people that are in the lost. That Seles, Hingis, both Williams and other great ones are not there says a lot.

Suliso beat me to it, but all of those are MARTINA. Martina, not in full upper case, is Hingis (I did say that Hingis was not on the list ). And, from now on, I gather that we need to add martina, meaning Trevisan.
Sorry for the confusion.

Re: '22 RG Day 11 OoP & Discussion
Unless she states differently this year, she's uncomfortable on grass. The Junior win shouldn't be relied on too heavily. Her 2021 Wimbledon result was courtesy of a cupcake draw. From what she said last year, it sounds like she's on it so little, she's not got her footing on it, she was open about not being that comfortable on grass. And if you watched her matches in the lead up tournament, that all played out. She shouldn't have won the match she did (it was either at Eastbourne or Birmingham) and she struggled mightily to just remain competitive with Kasatkina in a 3-set match after Daria played an error filled first set. It was not good. So, for the time being, her form on grass might not be up to par with what it is on other surfaces.ponchi101 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 2:27 pmDidn't she win a Wimby Jrs? If I had to guess now, I don't think she gets to 40 on grass.
Now, Aga was great on grass, so maybe the new coach will get her up to where she needs to be quicker than her old coach, so there's also that to consider.

Grass clearly Iga's weakest surface, but with a good draw I still expect QF's at Wimbledon.

Rublev/Cilic has ended up being a very, very good match.

Fifth-set breaker! Who do you want to win? I'm pulling for Rublev. (This was before he conceded an ace to Cilic... he checked the mark and saved the umpire the trouble.... in a fifth-set TB. My goodness.)
Nadal vs Cilic would feel so retro. Sascha vs Cilic for a Slam would be something we never thought we'd see.

It's only the 6th career GS SF for Cilic. Before looking up I assumed there had been more.

Ruud won the first set 6-1. Rune's one game came late in the set.

Rune making it more competitive in the 2nd. But abusing the drop shot a bit too much.

i think Rublev is playing the exact same game he was when he burst onto the scene. No adjustments, nothing. Maybe he needs a coaching change?
