They also have a deceiving H2H. A few of those wins were when Sabalenka was ranked in the 100s, not remotely close to the version of the player that emerged in 2018 and that we know now. Despite being kinda close in age, Donna has been around for a very long time on tour.

It is simply too hot..both Saba and Vekic are struggling...they really should not play the AO at this time of year in Melbourne..

It's 29°C today, 45% humidity. I don't think that's bad.

Totally deceptive score. Could it be the best match ever that ended 3 & 2?
(There must have been others. And I said ENDED 3 & 2. Lots of very close games)

Best match?? With 22 double faults and the players winning only 26% and 35% of their second serve points? I hope I never have to see an average match if that's in the running for best.
Also, I hope I never have to see Jelena Dokic doing another on-court interview. Consistently asking the most inane (and the bar is pretty low to begin with) questions. "So do you like Melbourne? What are you going to do tonight, watch a movie?" Begone!

Best match with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Obviously, not a great match, but it was closer than the score says.martini4me wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 4:19 am Best match?? Total winners: 69. More than 3 winners per game. That was good.

Virtually zero chance of anyone beating Djokovic in this tournament. Unfortunately... Doesn't look very promising for challengers in the remaining Slams either.

Honestly - this stuff has to completely bore even the most ardent Djokovic fans.
No-one can truly enjoy watching this level of predictable dominance time after time after time...
It will surely not attract new fans to tennis, either.

I agree, but on the other hand it's up to other players to raise their game to match Djokovic's level of play.

Re: '23 AO Day 10 OoP & Discussion
Hundreds of players have tried to do that ^ for about the past 15 years. All have been unsuccessful - except for 2, maybe 3, of them!
He's a great player, obviously... But, as I said a couple of days ago - now that Federer is gone and Nadal and Murray are in decline, tennis as a whole will be significantly better off without Djokovic's 1 person dominance.

When they showed a stat that Vekic had hit her 7th double, and it hit me "wait, this is her third service game", that's when I decided the winners from the baseline were not worth itmartini4me wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 4:19 am Best match?? Re: '23 AO Day 10 OoP & Discussion
Everybody has their ceiling. I think we have reached the point in which it is not a matter of "raising" their level. It is just that he is truly a more natural and talented player than, well, everybody else. So they really can't come up to his level.
And he is extremely focused on one thing. He wants to make it clear he is the GOAT; no asterisks, no exceptions. He wants to have so many slams it will be impossible to introduce any "BUT" in the conversation.
