A 125 will do nothing for her. She will be here for the Bogota cup, for sure, which is important to her.

Anyone know why Andreescu retired in her semifinal match?
MCOS miracle run ran into Caroline Garcia today. Still her results in Lyon were good.

Alycia won't beat Garcia but she will learn a lot, I am sure...

Garcia won't be able to attack Parks' serve the way she has been doing to everyone else..makes for an interesting dynamic..
I have stuck my neck out earlier on this forum to suggest that Parks has more up-side than Coco ...we shall see over the year. But since she is starting pretty low, and Coco is starting pretty high, the 'more upside' is almost a given.

I've been watching Parks for a couple of years now. She's shown improvement during that time. Cori has a lot of technical faults in her game and the window may have closed on a coach being able to fix them. As you say we'll see.

Again, Alycia Parks is 4 years older than Gauff, so you can't really compare them.ashkor87 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 1:15 am Garcia won't be able to attack Parks' serve the way she has been doing to everyone else..makes for an interesting dynamic..

Chronological age doesn't matter, Gauff has been around longer than Parks

Parks turned pro in 2017. Coco un 2018,
Coco has been around the top longer than Parks, but Parks even has more wins (136 to 132). Problem: she has way more loses (132 - 67).
About Coco's technical weaknesses. I don't see them. I know people talk a lot about her FH being a weakness but, she can belt it. And that did not stop Edberg from being a top player.

Someone informed her that she hadn't retired from a match yet in 2023, and that she must do so in order to maintain her reputation as the WTA's most fragile player.
Emma's giving her a run for her money - so every retirement and withdrawal counts!

It does when one of the people in question is 18 and the other is a full grown woman.

True, but let us also note that Hingis was a grand slam champion at 16, so was Tracy Austin.JTContinental wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:42 amIt does when one of the people in question is 18 and the other is a full grown woman.

Re: WTA 250 Hua Hin, Lyon 1/30-2/5/2023
Yes... the fact that Gauff hasn't won a Major yet surely means that she will never win one, and that her career is doomed to failure...
Add the fact that, apart from Hingis and Austin (and Seles), 99.5% of the other female Major winners throughout history had also won their first Major by age 18 - so Gauff is clearly and obviously well behind everyone else here....
Ok... well, that's actually not true at all... Hmmmm..... I guess that means that winning a Major by age 18 is a rare accomplishment (it hasn't happened since Kuznetsova in 2004, which obviously means that all of the young players over the past 20 years have been just as 'terrible' as Gauff!). So - if one hasn't won a Major yet by the 'ripe old age' of 18, it really means... absolutely nothing - especially as the player in question here is the only player under 20 years old currently ranked in the top 30. So it seems that she's doing quite well...
This view of Gauff being pretty much 'washed up' at 18 is well beyond bizarre.
Everyone is free to have their own perspective on things, of course... but it would certainly help if some degree of reality were considered in the process of forming the opinion.
