Sebov won it over Linda Fruhvirtova - 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
The 3rd set was shaky from both players. Sebov seemed rather overwhelmed with her victory, as it's the first time she gets to the 2nd round in a tournament of this level.
It was nice to see Fruhvirtova signing a couple of autographs for kids after the match, despite the disappointing loss.

So... two nice Canadian wins today with Marino and Sebov... They should take pride in and enjoy their deserved wins - but it gets considerably more difficult in the next round, as Marino gets Gauff, and Sebov gets Pegula.

Tomorrow, Andreescu vs. Raducanu is first up on the main court at noon. Leylah will play Tsurenko around 4pm, it looks like.

But indeed, strange score to retire from.
Is that two first round exits in back to back practice SPs?

I pointed this out during IW. But almost all evidence suggests thus far that her top form is indoors and only indoors. It may not be that the new attention is causing her problems. I'm not making excuses for her lack of results outdoors, she clearly should be doing better at many of these tournaments. But if you go back and look at how she's risen through the rankings in the last year, her runs deep in tournaments whether it's the main WTA tour, W125 or ITF are almost all at indoor events. She wasn't having this kind of indoor success 2 years ago, so hopefully it's just a matter of time until she figures out how to be more competitive outdoors, but her results show a stark drop off when you compare the two.

I only know this because a tennis journalist I follow on Twitter called her the Indoor Queen or something like that and I thought that's a stretch (seems given recent history, Anett should be able to maintain that title for a bit), but still point taken and I looked closer at her results because of that. It wasn't something I knew to pay attention with her.

Giorgi blew her 5-1 lead in the third set but won the tiebreak for a 7-6(4), 6-7(4), &-6(4) over Kanepi.

And I did not stutter. Those are the scores.

Three, because my zombie pick for day two of the IW WTA also lost.
For the real RG SP, I will probably burst into flames as soon as I press "submit". :zombie:

She is freakin' talented. Thing is, early in the year, she made all these pronouncements about how she saw herself making the top 10 by the end of this year. Over and over again, and almost always- when players do that, they end up screwing up. You've put a lot of pressure on yourself- AND set a target, especially for veteran players who want to show the newbie not to brag.
Oh dear. I missed that she had done that. There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance.

Per Twitter, Siniakova suffered a nasty wrist injury, and had to pull out immediately mid-game. It sounds potentially serious

Also per Twitter, Davis withdrew with an ab injury

Unfortunately for Schmiedlova, the lucky loser replacement she drew, Tomova, won the match.

Re the Sunshine Double ...let us not forget the only reason Serena and Venus did not, is because they boycotted Indian Wells for most of their career.

I never thoight indoor versus outdoor be that different! are there any precedents we know of? of someone being very good indoors but not outdoors? Kvitova and Safarova come to mind, but then Safarova did get to the finals of the French..and Kvitova has a known allergy issue..
