Botic just beat Ruud in 3 sets.
Ruud had his chances, but couldn’t close those games out.
Match point was indicative of the way the match went - Ruud should have won that point, too.

Botic looked like a guy they randomly pulled out of the crowd to play, with his plain white T-shirt (no collar), black shorts, and white baseball cap...

WELL, as we all now know- Pegula will never reach the career accomplishments and highlights of Alexandrova. :gorgeous:

She must be at least as good as Alexandrova because they have the same number of titles.

OK, well I have one. As a fan, I find your constant diminishment of Gauff and her accomplishments to be extremely offputting, and I'm asking you to reign it in a bit.
Please learn the spelling of 'rein' first..that word 'reign' doesn't mean what you think it does.

I think most people here would agree Coco hasn't done much yet..hopefully she will, but still has too many deficiencies..

I watched the Ruud/BVDZ match completely. Ruud is in problems (and Botic may be in problems too).
it is not the loss, it was the quality of play. There was a stretch around 3-3 in the third in which Casper missed, in succession, one easy FH approach (into the net), one swinging volley (long), could not put away an easy smash, and then missed a regular volley, wide by a few feet. As per above, the final point was a signature of what had happened, as he hit a smash right back at Botic, who returned it only for Casper to dump it into the net. G, S & M BVDZ.
I think Casper is a very good player; his results last year say so. But I started to wonder: what if Casper's 2022 is something like JC Ferrero's 2003? (RG, USO F, #1 ranking). And from that high, it all went downhill.
Sole consolation for him: Casper kept fighting. But he needs to start winning a few matches to get back into winning form.

Trevisan 3 & 3 over Alona. On a hard court?
She is the streakiest player ever (Alona). I said it in another topic: just hit it a little bit softer.

It is also so bizarre that Trevisan had been losing horrendously this year on hard courts. And, all of a sudden, she's playing so much better. These far improved results could not have come at a better time for her, as she has huge Roland Garros SF points to defend.

100%. Yet another crazy match. Casper's quality of play has very dramatically fallen so far this year. It would not at all have surprised me if his level had dropped some. But, sheeeeesh.

Join Thiem on the Challenger Tour? I mean, LOL, at least Casper has won some matches this year. But, while they both many times had some great rallies- van de Zandschulp was also nowhere near playing his best. Casper just choked more.

Funny- I don't recall it that Ferrero's career went downhill after his Roland Garros win. Of all things, he had a US Open final, an Aussie SF and two Wimbledon QF's after his 2003 Roland Garros win, and was winning titles and making finals until 2011. However, he was no longer a factor at Roland Garros after his win- never again making it past R3.

I've made a query of win-loss since 2019 (it'll cover Gauff career so far). Out of all American players during this time she has the 2nd best winning percentage - behind only Serena. She already has 3 titles and a final appearance in the Slam. You have awfully high standards if this "hasn't done much yet". If you think that looking only to Americans here is missing big picture - she is #12 on the overall list for this time.

And Linette comes back to be in control of the 2nd set, leading 5-2...
Only to completely blow it. Pegula won it 7-5.

Trevisan over Ostapenko would be an absolute shock if not for Ostapenko's history of inconsistency.
Every time I've seen Trevisan play lately, she has looked like she deserves a ranking of no higher than about #150.
I wish I had seen today's match.

Cirstea continuing to play well, taking the 1st set over Vondrousova...

Cerundolo 6-2 in 1st set over Felix...

Potapova over Qinwen in straight sets (2nd set tiebreak) is somewhat of a surprise.
I read where Qinwen was playing around with her racquets earlier this year, trying to get more power from them, only to realize that she had (rather predictably) less control.
She has supposedly gone back to the racquet specs she originally had now, but that sort of thing can play with your head, as most pro players are extremely particular about their racquets and strings.

Mertens was up a break on Rybakina in the 1st set... but Rybakina got the break right back. 4-4.

Felix came back from being a break down in the 2nd, but couldn't hold on, and lost - 2-6, 5-7.

Someone said that Felix seemed to be struggling with the heat.

I didn't see enough of the match to be able to tell if that was the case or not.
I do know that he has a type of heart condition - sort of an arrhythmia type of thing - that has affected him on the court in rare moments (people might recall back in 2019, I think, he had to retire from a U.S. Open match vs. Shapovalov because of this heart condition).
It's tachycardia (palpitations).
